The Leafs are a bad team right now that needs to solve their bad player issue. It's going to cost a lot to dump terrible players while getting good ones in return.

The leafs are still a top team in the league and this solves none of their issues. And even if it did holl actually has a good contract and is better than dehaan by a lot and the minor upgrade from mrazek to maf isnt worth half that.
Just brutal for the leafs in every way

That's a very bad trade for the Pens.

Kubalik and Gustavsson are not worth that package. Neither of them make the Pens any better than what they are now

There isn't a chance you get a top prospect for a pair of rentals from Toronto.

PIT needs another line that can score besides Crosby/Guentzel/Rust. It's a real problem. They also need to get rid of that $5.5M contract. Getting a 30 goal scorer that's an RFA seems like a good fit.

I'd rather just keep working with Mrazek to improve his game to keep that first round pick and Knies. Dubas has already paid a first round pick to get a contract off the books in the past, don't see him doing it again.

I should have probably inserted that MAF isn't a rental. I just assumed everyone knew that by now. He won't accept any trade unless an extension occurs. That's on me.

It's not on you, its on Chicago. If MAF requires an extension as part of a deal to meet Chicago's NTC, its their responsibility and they don't get value for it. Chicago are trading part of 1 year of MAF, a rental. You'd be dumb to think otherwise.

That's not really how it works though. The Hawks will let Dubas talk to Allen Walsh and see what MAF is willing to accept. If MAF is true to what he's saying...he's looking to win vs a big contract...then getting an extension on a team friendly team is a huge win for Dubas.

And what has Chicago done there to earn extra value for him? To say he isn't a rental from Chicago's point of view?

Why would Chicago get extra value for MAF in that scenario? The contract is part of the players requirements to be traded through the clause the team gave him. Why should they see extra value for meeting the players requirement? Chicago is giving up a rental on MAF regardless of whether he signs a contract or not with the new team.

Oh ok, I'm ok if the Hawks extend him. I don't see the Hawks being contenders, which is why I don't think he stays, but he's 100% the best UFA goalie on the market this summer. If he wants to stay in CHI...great. He's said he loves it here.

Zucker still provides a lot of defensive value and Kubalik scored 30 goals 2 seasons ago, that talking point is irrelevant.

Right now Kubalik isn't anything close to what he was in his rookie season and does nothing to improve the Pens secondary scoring issues.

I think the TOR trade is fair, but all leafs fans lose their minds when they see they are giving Knies or a 1st without getting JT Miller or Chychrun back so they won't like it. I think the Pens trade is pretty lopsided towards us, don't see them doing that

So dumb. He's the current Vezina winner. so whether he's 37 or 40 or 89...winning the Vezina is winning the Vezina.

If he's still playing well why does it matter how old he is? MAF already said he is playing next year
