Oil off-season refactor

Created by: TheGreatBigMac
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 4, 2022
Published: Mar. 9, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Too many gaps, not enough cap. Need to move Nurse and Barrie to make more space. McDavid and Drai won't like it but I'm hoping they come around when we win the cup!

What warrants a Yamamoto raise?? Why would they sign Kane to that term? And do you really think Manson is going to pick signing in Edmonton just because his dad is an Asst Coach, so he will sign a discounted deal for both term and $$?? Sorry but these ideas are way too far fetched, Darnell sticks around as an Oiler long term with Connor, Leon and Nuge, especially if it means giving up more in a deal to get a somewhat injury prone Chychryn and using the difference in cap space to sign Kane long term too...

Nurse is better than Chychrun, that trade makes no sense

Okay, I want to move Nurse and free up cap while getting a decent reasonably priced replacement. What would you suggest.

Okay might be off a bit on cap and term for Manson, can go 4x4 not a big deal. Yes I do think being with family might be attractive to him, not trying to get a discount.

Yamo again minor detail. Kane has been good adding some muscle Oil need.

I think the biggest issue with my plan is Nurse has a full NMV next year which I didn't check, doubt he waves for zona.

Yes cap space would be nice but for a team that doesn't have a cup contending blue line likely trading your best defenseman isn't the best idea. I would look to save the cap space up front whether it's Kassian, or if it's on the back end moving Barrie and replacing him with someone making less money.

Kassian (3 mil) plus Barrie (4.5 mil minus 2 mil estimated replacement player) gives somewhere around 5 more mil for goaltending

Interesting how Barrie is having a better season than Klingberg, is better historically and isn't in line for a big contract in the summer, yet this board thinks he has zero value while Klingberg is worth a Kings ransom.

It doesn't compute.

Yamamoto warrants a raise for sure. He's top-100 in 5v5 goals this year, despite having a "down" season. He has scored just as many 5v5 goals as Tavares, Zibanejad, Ehlers, Scheifele and a bunch of others. Only 3 Oilers players have more than Yamamoto.

I did that too but used the money to sign Kane. There aren't many top goalies available, if we can sign Kuemper fine but guessing he'll want to stay in Colorado. Kane & Holtby is the plane B.

In my plan Nurse => Chychrun & Manson which I think is more bang for the buck.

Good point, Barrie has been good but we don't need two puck moving PP qbs on Edmonton. I would rather have someone more physical and defensively strong like Manson. I do think Barrie should fetch a better return but was being conservative.
