I mean, I don't see it for anyone that wasn't an Isles fan, unless they just hate the Leafs? As a non-Leafs fan, I don't understand the dislike. It's like when people hate Auston Matthews, or trash Marner. Doesn't make a lick of sense to me.

I guess I don't understand why anyone would think "Oh hey, this player who we haven't been able to extend yet, who also can't talk to other teams yet because he's under contract with us guarantees that, while he's going to check out the UFA market, he's going to sign here anyway". I think you could argue that him leaving actually helped the Isles.

Hahaha, I mean, playoff-wise, they went to the 2nd round, 3rd round and then 3rd round again in the 3 years without Tavares. This year? Obviously not...I'd be willing to bet that a number of Leafs fans would sell their soul for that kind of success though, and that's not an attempt at a Leafs jab.
