Can you give me a comparable deadline rental trade where one player, without retention even, got a 1st, 2nd, a depth roster player, and a 25 year old playing at a 24 goal/82GP pace?

I think you’ll have a lot of difficulty.

Last year Nick Foligno was traded at deadline and columbus got a 1st and a 4th for him. I mean its not as much as giroux is getting in this trade but giroux is definitely worth more than Foligno

Also in 2014 Ryan Miller traded to St Louis for Halak Chris stewart (on a 20 goal pace) william carrier (prospect) a 1st round pick and a 3rd round pick.

Right, so the answer is no, you can’t. And by the way, those two prospects were absolute hot garbage.

The ryan miller trade i stated was pretty close. but remember Giroux is a better player than the ones ive named. Ignila was better overall career but when he got traded no. Plus Debrusk wants out of boston anyways

Debrusk wanting out matters precisely zero.

Iginla had scored 30+ I believe 12 consecutive years at the time of the trade. He went on to do it the following year in boston too. Giroux has achieved that once, i want to say five years ago. So, no to that one.

The closest we can come was eight seasons ago, for a vezina winning goaltender (though he was traded with Steve Ott, who was a pretty decent player at the time). I think that kind of proves the point.

being a better goal scorer than a guy is a playmaker proves nothing. Thats like saying Mattews is better than players like Mcdavid, MacKinnon. Your sleeping on Giroux's value. Lazar is an ahl top 6 forward at best on a good team so he really means nothing in this trade. Debrusk a 1st and a 2nd for Giroux is about fair. maybe get rid of the 2nd then its more than fair

Alright, why is he worth more than any other skater available at the deadline as a rental over the last decade?

Same as all the other guys of his ilk. Somewhere between a 1st and a kicker, and a 1st, 3rd and a kicker.

I just don’t get what’s happening on this board, it’s like the majority of the group have forgotten what deadline rentals look like.
