DNVR - Lord Stanleys Jello Mold

Created by: jesterno2
Team: 2021-22 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 10, 2022
Published: Mar. 10, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
We bring in the Ginger G-sus, along with Braun to fortify the D. Philly gets their high picks, two of our top-5 blue chips, a young, affordable, hard-working bottom-6 guy that's still improving, and a veteran Dman to slot in next year. Landy moves back up to the top line and G slides in and basically replicates what we've seen from that line the past few games with Landy. Burky drops down to give Newhook a dangerous line mate, and one he's shown some chemistry with on PP2.

We bring back Stastny, the prodigal son, and his utility massively upgrades the 3rd line. He's been on a bit of a tear so his price is higher, but MacDonald and Beaucage likely aren't ever going to get a realistic shot at cracking the Avs rotation but are promising guys that could use a change of scenery. I'd say with this team the pick conditions have a high chance of being met.

We pick up Jarnkrok from Seattle to upgrade the production on the 4th line with Jost heading to Philly. They were interested in JTC heading into the expansion draft and we sweeten the deal with Bowers, a top-10ish guy who just can't ever seem to get any love here for whatever reason.

This team looks solid. I like all the trade targets but I'd prefer to keep Compher - maybe swap him out for a pick in the SEA deal

JT is a passenger too often; if getting rid of him means the bottom six improves this much, I'm all for it. I will say that Bura would likely be extremely ineffective on the 3rd line.

Jets say yes, especially when Stastny is at best worth just a 2nd rounder. A 2 or 3, a roster player and two prospects? Yes

Yeah, it might be overkill. With Paul's recent hot streak (7pts & 5G in his last 5 games) I'd expect there to be some demand from contending teams as we approach the deadline. We'd be off-loading Helms salary here, asking WIN to retain salary, our pick is conditional, AND I included getting a pick back. I didn't want to propose a trade that was just "here take a bag of pucks and give us all the value value". This is the year to go for it so I'm fine having one trade be a bit of overkill since there are other teams (FLA) that could be going hard as well.

You think he'd be ineffective paired with Newhook and Stastny? There are teams toward the bottom of the league that could have that as their 1st line. I think you also under-estimate that that line would be going up against other teams' 3rd lines. Worst case scenario, if it doesn't seem to be gelling you switch him with Nuke. Bednar shifts lines a lot.

If you kept Compher, you'd definitely be over the cap. 3.5M for JTC is hard to swallow when the team is this up against the cap and needs to upgrade the bottom-6.

If he stayed, who loses their roster slot to keep him? NAK?

COL has over 3.8M in deadline cap space, they would be able to fit him under the cap in addition to this roster. AGM just shows a simplified version of the teams cap hit - since COL has been under the daily cap for most of the year they can exceed the daily cap near the end of the season as long as the total cap hit on the season does not exceed 81.5M

Yes, Compher would play over NAK

And teams do tend to overpay at the deadline. I'd imagine you could just feed Arizona another mid round pick to take Helm off your hands, and use another 2nd or 3rd to get Stats back.

I feel like Bura needs a lot of ice time to be effective and I wouldn't say that the minutes would balance out if that were the group - Bednar likes to play his top two lines a lot. Maybe he'd reconsider if he had a 3rd line like that but there are just some habits that are too hard to break.

No chance Winnipeg does that. The Jets aren't giving up a 4th along with Stastny to get a 2nd in a year and 3 worthless players.

Lol, cool story bro. Most of the trades I've seen out there are just throwing a 3rd for Stastny, so safe to assume that on top of having little knowledge about Beaucage and MacDonald, you also have been similarly as critical of every single one of those trade proposals?

Yup. You're not offering any incentive to the Jets for waiting a year for a marginal upgrade in picks in two years from a 4th to a 2nd. The Jets can easily get a 3rd this year fot Stastny, so they'd probably do that.

You even know from your offer that you're not offering anything of value. If you need to add 3 pieces on top of a 2nd to get Stastny, you know those three pieces have virtually no value. If they did, you wouldn't have offered 3 additional pieces.

Lol, I think you're the one that doesn't understand all the pieces, but that's okay by me. Other people did. I don't need everyone on the internet to like my ideas.

I know, you're a typical fan and think that you can get valuable players without giving up anything significant.

It's fine to fantasize about things like that, it's just not realistic. I especially liked how you call a 29 year old plug "promising".grin

Not sure why you continue to spend time on this thread if you don't have anything to add.

Beaucage has an NHL-ready shot right now and is still right in the mix for a top-10 spot in the Av's prospect pool, which is far from barren. He's a risk-reward guy but far from worthless. MacDonald can play both D and F and his Corsi stats last year proved he can definitely be a contributor. If it weren't for injuries this year we probably see him playing all the minutes JJ, Murray, and McDermid have been eating. And at that cost, he's worth having in your system. Helm is obviously going to clear salary so the fact that you're thinking he's included in the trade as value just shows me that you aren't comprehending the Avs situation going into the deadline. I can buy your argument that a 3rd this year is more valuable than a pick swap next year, even if it's a higher pick, but honestly you didn't seem to want to come in and actually discuss so much as crap on the idea. So not gonna waste any more time discussing this. You don't like it. cool. Hope people are liking the teams you're posting.
