Next year with McDavid

Created by: Jacketsman61
Team: 2022-23 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 29, 2021
Published: Mar. 10, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The trade happens at the draft. Assuming Chicago doesn’t win the draft lottery.

I know this isn’t going to happen but it should. Edmonton has tried to make it work but they just don’t have enough on the back end on defense and a clear #1goaltender in net to get them to a cup. Edmonton would still have Draisaitl to anchor the team from but would have much better forward depth and the ability to really bolster the blue line with some much needed highly skill defensemen. Tarasov would immediately give the Oilers a goaltender that has star moxie and could be the answer in goal for years to come.

The Jackets finally get a #1 C and one of the best in the league. With McDavid the Jackets now look like a very dangerous team in the East.

Replace Bremstrom and Foudy with Johnson and Sillinger to even get Edmonton to take the call. You probably also have to add Boqvist or Cuelamens to get the trade done, and that’s if they don’t ask for Werenski and/or Merzlinkins coming back.

Overall any McDavid trade hurts the depth of the team to acquire him to the point where he might not even be worth it to acquire him.

Not saying your wrong but that is why Edmonton will still be toiling away. Sure they could ask for that but no team would ever give that up. Realistically speaking, they would back in this same situation in 3yrs. The idea would be for Edmonton to get cap space and create serious depth. Again not saying your wrong because you are probably right but they should consider it.

I don’t see how that’s possible since they are taking on less than what is going out. Unless I am missing something

Blues have no need for Nyqvist or Kukan. Talk to us about Gavrivkov.

In the interest of entertaining the thought experiment, no deal for McDavid happens without at least one of Johnsson or Sillinger being involved. Then add Bjorkstrand, one of Foudy or Texier, Gavrikov, and then a bunch of picks.

You're close, no deal for McDavid happens......that's where the sentence ends.
