Someone voted yes🤦‍♂️

its a good signing for every team in the NHL and Risotlainen. oh...except it's not good for flyers. Also... lets remember the sabres got Isak Rosen and Robert Hagg for this dude, and another pick to come

If the plan is to tank for bedard, this is a master class move

Only if they plan to tank for him for the next five seasons.

With the high price they paid for him, they didn't really have a choice to keep him.

You can scream as much as you want, but a defenceman with points will get paid even if their defense play is lacking.

See Myers, Gardiner, De Haan, Brodie, Skej...

I'm sorry, but this list is utterly nonsensical.

You put objectively bad players like Myers with guys who got hurt like Gardiner and guys who are outright good like Brodie.

It’s a good deal. Don’t think about it as Ristolainen. Think about the value of the high-end picks he’ll secure for you. He’s also big enough to consume smaller skill players, like Giroux when he’s as far away from the Flyers as he can get. What’s the downside?

I'm assuming you mean someone other than Brodie? Because he's an amazing defenseive defenseman lol.

No... Just No.

All those D men u posted don't put up points lol.
Don't even mention Brodie in the same sentence as Tyler Myers.
Brodie is the best in his own end on the Leaf's and their PK would suck without him.
Risto dose not desrve this contract and he dose not even produce offensively

Chart from last season but still

Hold on to want you can buddy. Being the best of a bad defense line up doesn't make you good. Also, Im pretty sure Muzzin is Toronto best defensive defenseman.

muzzin has not been very good this year. (also watch out with that argument about being the best on a bad team! people will quote you on that if you argue about getting good value for chiarot hahaha)

It's not because you cant find the sense that there's none:

Risto, 27 yo, 258 points in 591 games, 5x5M
Gardiner, 28 yo, 245 points in 551 games, 4x4M
Myers, 29 yo, 265 points in 635 games, 5x6M
Brodie, 30 yo, 266 points in 634 games, 4x5M

Dont worry I knew the Leafs fans were gonna come at me for saying Brodie isn't reliable defensively. Where are the advanced stats guys when you need them...

Well, Chiarot and the MTL's Dcore won more playoffs rounds in a year than TML's in the last 20...I don't need to watch out at all about comparing the two. (hahaha)

not sure how that matters? i agree chiarot was clutch in the playoff for us and was a big part of our run. doesnt mean brodie is playing badly! all im saying is using the best of a bad team argument can be a double edge sword!

The difference is, the other guys suck defensively while Brodie is very good defensively, and Brodie is more than worth his contract.
