I really think Petry have way more value even with that contract. And like you said we have Petry at 6.5 why go get one more at 4.5.

If Ken Holland could actually make those deals, they'd be done.

He won't because they clearly favour Edmonton.

Outside of the first half of the season, Petry has been a consistently strong 1/2 D-man for a long time now. Barrie has been an offense-only D-man that has to be carefully sheltered since his last season in Colorado.

And even if Petry was done, getting Barrie would make even less sense.

Not entirely sure WHY Edmonton would make that trade with Ottawa but Ottawa jumps on it before they come to their senses!

Islanders need more or else they'll just shop those pieces separately around the league.

They're getting back this year's 1st (in the 20ish range), a 3rd two years down the road, and an admittedly strong prospect in Bourgault. But the rest of the package is Mike Smith, who is only here because Edmonton *needs* to move him out to avoid having three goalies on their roster next year, and Safin, a guy who looks like his ceiling is an occasional callup kind of guy. Take out Bellows and maybe upgrade Safin to a lower-tier prospect with some actual upside (Munzenberger maybe?) and it has more juice.

all year Petry has been dogged on on this site. He's become a meme. And now his value is suddenly back after 10 strong games?
