Leafs are much better off playing Sandin LD, keeping Holl, at total of about 3.5 and keeping Knies and a pick than 3.5m Edmundson.

Had not seen it like that but you're right. I just think the Leafs would benefit from a true established top 4 defensman next season and of course a number 1 goalie

It seem to be working extremely well for you that way. A mean 50 goals allowed in the past 11 games and they must keep their defense just like it is. Edmundson is maybe not the sexiest players but at least he know what defense mean. I am always fascinated about how all those Toronto Fan around here under value defensive defenseman.

Well Montreal fans, seem to have think Petry, Chariot and Edmundson are the answer to other teams defensive solutions. Gee, what team has the worse GAA in the league....Montreal.

And i would rather have Petry, Chiarot and Edmundson in a playoff serie then having Brodie, Muzzin and Holl. It seem to have work pretty well in the playoffs last year for them. St. louis have had all sort of issue since trading Edmundson and let Pietrangelo walk to free agency. Tampa Bay had built their team with big and strong defensive minded d-men. Probably Toronto should start looking too had some grit and toughness because you will face Tampa bay or Florida in the first round and with that defense you probably won’t reach game 7 of the first round. Chiarot might not be great on the offensive side but he rank in top categories in many defensive categories. He rank 20th in puck retrieval in defensive zone, 58th for limite entry zone and 60th in goal against expected. They gave a lot of chance when he is on the ice but most of them are not grade A chance since it’s very hard to stand in the front of the net. Je probably do thing the right way if all those Hockey Scouts, Administrator, Gm, and other are all trying to get their hand on him. Those people who made a living with Hockey. Maybe they know thinh that we don’t.

Difference is Leafs are 1-2 players away from being top5 contenders while the Habs are one of the worst team on paper and on the ice. I don't think Toronto should go at high end defensmans like Chychrun or H. Lindholm-they're already maybe the best offensive team in the league, that's why I gave as an exemple a good top4 shutdown defensman but that could be anyone else

no, the difference here is that I know that the habs dont need middle 6 forwards and you think the leafs need bottom pairing defenders from the worst team in the league to contend and should over pay hilariously for them. Edmunson isnt a top 4 shut down D, he is bad. The leafs dont even need defenders at all unless muzzin is done. Their current issue is that they have two goalies who are having an awful month. that is all.
Bad defenders, especially 'shut down' guys who cant shut down anything are not on the list

While it might be fair value for the habs trade I don't see them trading edmundson who's a great leader in the room

Not interested in the trade, but Knies and a 2nd aren't getting them over the hump this year, while Edmundsson makes them better when it matters.
(That's with the caveat that Edmundsson is in good shape. Might be more of an off season thing for that reason.)

I don't think MTL can get that much value until Edmundson returns and performs at last season's level. It may be safer for the Leafs to target someone else, and it makes sense for MTL to stick with Edmundson until he gets back to form and not sell low on him.
