Next Year Dallas

Created by: mvp13
Team: 2022-23 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 11, 2022
Published: Mar. 12, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Robo comparable: Kirill. Gave 1mil less. I can see him taking anywhere between 5-8 years at this AAV. Adjust as necessary.

Otter comparable: Elvis. Gave one additional year since Elvis had one year off his ELC before the 4mil contract. I think teams will/should be more careful giving bigger AAV/term contracts to goalies after Binnington. The term can be adjusted for RFA/UFA expiry status, if necessary.

Chiarot: with Miro likely/probably/definitely out longterm/at least until the playoffs, I think DAL will be keeping Klingberg past the deadline, but still losing him in free agency. This hole at RD will make them a major player in the Chiarot Sweepstakes. With Klingberg exiting, that opens up room to sign Chiarot. They trade picks/non roster players for Chiarot at the 2022 TDL.

3rd and 4th line: I think a problem of the team's makeup is trying to find chemistry/identity down in the bottom 6. What I did here was group the defensive minded vets on the "4th line", and put a grouping of young kids on the "3rd line" to try to get offense from somewhere other than the top two lines. I see both lines getting equal playing time, depending on situations and game scores, etc. On the "3rd line", try Peterson at center, sub in other scratches/AHL players to try to make something happen. I can see them either keeping Dobby in the AHL/buying out/trading him to try to get a better 3rd liner as well. With this current roster, I really view this team as two 1st lines, and two 4th lines. I'm not sure what can really be done to change that with the current cap situations.

Really? I went with Chiarot simply because I don't think you can get Barrie right now. DAL will need someone during Miro's absence in the current playoff race. I think Chiarot is the best available replacement you can reasonably acquire right now. I'm not sure how two teams currently in the playoff hunt can pull off a trade like that right now.

Besides the fact Barrie is a bit of a pylon haha... I think DAL will be fine letting Miro be on the PP1, and Suter/Chiarot on PP2.

I meant for next year, and as for this year I’d prefer almost any other defensemen than Chiarot. His asking price is apparently a 1st+ which is extremely unreasonable, and he’s a big downgrade on Miro. The only thing that helps his case is grit and physicality in which Dallas already has too much.

A reasonable acquisition would probably be De Haan.

Petry would line up well with any of your LD, replace Klingberg, and give you an avenue to move Khudobin and/or Faksa's contracts (since Montreal wouldn't care about taking back salary in a Petry trade).
If you're already paying the speculated price for Chiarot, it shouldn't take much more to acquire Petry.

Hm, that's an interesting alternative. I assume MTL would want some kind of young roster player back in that deal, though, like a Kiviranta or Peterson, or even a Gurianov (especially if dead weight is coming back to MTL in terms of Dobby, etc). Which kind of helps and hurts at the same time. I doubt Gorts would view him as a pure cap dump based on this dead season alone

1st or Bourque + Faksa or Khudobin would get a conversation started. A couple of 2nds might be enough.
Stranges or Dellandrea might be of interest. Montreal can add if there's a gap in value as well.
There's options, it's just a matter of finding something that works for both teams.
