How much more. I mean, they're shedding 8.45mil of cap space with this deal and only taking back maybe 3-3.25mil in Gurianov for next year...

Unless they're certain they can bring in Letang in FA, I don't see this being worth it for MTL. The untapped potential Gurianov has doesn't make up for having 0 RDs under contract.

Kerfoot and a 1st doesn't even sniff John Klingberg. And with Dallas in a current playoff spot Jim Nill isn't trading Klinberg while taking on a more expensive Petry.

If we take your trade as a base. I would add Faksa, Forget about the salary retain on Petry, change the second for a first .
Edit : something like that would make more sense I think. More money going to Montreal like that.

Faksa
1st

for

Petry
Savard?

Seems lopsided for the habs now tho imo

Can't see Nill wanting to let Klinger walk for nothing. This way, atleast he gets a decent top-9 F who could slide into C if needed, and a late 1st rounder

Dallas could certainly inquired about Petry especially if they no that Klingberg is gone by the end of the season. But the players targeted just dust make sense for Montreal. They are overloaded on the wing. It’s probably the last place they need to had pieces. Petry have been playing like is old self under St.Louis like almost every other players. I do think that Montreal would target Dellandra or Bourque. That is what a top 4 defenseman is worth on the market. Dallas are pretty deep at center position with Hintz, Seguin, Faksa, Petersen, Dellandrea, Damiani, Johnston, Bourque and Stankoven. If they lost Klingberg they have nobody that could step up and replace him. We just saw how losing a top 4 defenseman hurt the team this year in Montreal. Not saying that this would happen but both team have something the other is looking for.

Yeah, it looked better in my head, maybe if we swap the first for a second and fourth it would be better.

Also like the guy said over me, winger are not the top priority for Montreal right now. I think Montreal would try to get Ty Dellandra over Gurianov.

Wouldn't trade Gurianov and a 1st for Petry, way too steep.

Nill doesn’t have to trade Klingberg and can still bring Petry in and some other piece since they have 8,5 millions that Heiskanen cap hit had.

Petry is a big 40 points a year RHD. That, and a big PPG center, are the hardest players to get. Once one is available, you pay the price and run.

He even got better stats than Chychrun over the last 4 years. Not saying Petry is better, just tired of people saying Petry is worth nothing.

Not saying he’s worth nothing, just saying I don’t want to pay that much. Petry was shakey under Ducharme, but he’s been very good for MSL, only problem is that Dallas has pretty much the same coach that Montreal used to have.

Petry is 34, he only has about 4 year left give or take (average retirement age is 38), that’s not that long. On the other hand you’ve got Gurianov who’s 24 and has 14 years left (“), under a new coach he’d be a 50-60 point winger. After that you’ve got the first, that player would have about 18 years to play depending on how good he gets, that player could become better than Petry, we’ll never know till they get drafted and developed.

If a team thinks it could win a cup with Petry I’d suggest paying up for him, but I don’t think the investment would pay off for Dallas. Just my 2 cents.

I don't think Dallas is the right team for Petry, unless they know Klingberg is out this summer. Nashville or Washington are more likely.
