Draft Day-Trading Up

Description
Trade up in the 2022 draft so we can get either Jiricek or Nemec to fill RHD needs. Could be with any team that has 8th overall or up assuming Jiricek goes around 8th overall, and we may have to trade someone like Hoglander along with our first if we are moving up significantly in the draft. Get rid of Poolman and Dickinson contracts by trading with teams they might be of use to. Other than this, re-sign most of our team, hopefully to decent contracts. Boeser at 6.5 mill if he decides to take a deal for whatever reason. Any opinions on the line arrangements? I think the third line is a pretty awesome hard checking line with scoring ability too.

The draft lottery has not been determined yet, so theoretically it could very well be enough. If the Canucks are 12th overall and NJ is 8th, its not that big of a gap, so the 1st with Klimovich may be enough, maybe add in a 3rd or 4th too. I also said we may have to give up Hoglander or someone like that to move up significantly as well if that's the way the draft turns out. Im also using NJ as an example, could be any team that ends up with 10-6th overall.

You're trading with the wrong team if those two are still available, they'll be primary targets for the Devils too.

Also:

1. That value is bad, moving up like 10 spots in the 1st round for a guy that can't even compete in the AHL is not enough.
2. Won't surprise me if the Devils go on a bit of a run and tank their tank. Which is fine, Devils care about winning games more than getting yet another top 5 pick.

NJ is an example, could be any other team. Im just exploring the option of the Nucks trading up in the draft and what it might look like. You don't know it will be 10 spots, the value is not determined yet since the draft lottery is not determined yet. If the Nucks somehow tank, they could end up with a high pick, but likely not and will have a middle first rounder. That's why I said we may have to trade Hoglander, potentially other pieces to move up if that's what Allvin ends up doing at the draft.

There’s about a 0% chance teams in top 5 are going to trade out of it, and Chances are both these guys are going taken in top 5 (as of right now), so trading up from the teens to top 5 pick is going to be extremely costly. Historically the cost to move up a couple spots in the 10-15 range would cost a 2nd, to move up 5-10 spots your looking at easily multiple 2nd, 3rd, prospect’s, somewhere in that area depending on the number of spots needed. And with ARI, SEA, MTL all planning rebuilds they are very unlikely to trade their spots unless it’s a massive overpayment and they’re currently accounting for about 40% of chances of winning the lottery. Only team you might stand half a chance to trade with would be The blue jackets as they have 2 1st round picks looking to be in the 5-15 range. Possibly OTT as they’re on the tail end of the rebuild and may be able to get by picking few spots later but again, it won’t be cheap. Not impossible but prepare to overpay and it won’t come easy that’s for sure

Using The Athletic's draft pick value chart, the picks are worth

NJD #7: 7.1
VAN #15: 4.9

Difference of 2.2 (equivalent to picks #38-39).
So probably fair value-wise, but I doubt Devils bite.

Devils would want way more to move down
Plus Devils would want to take Jiricek in that case

Its only fair if you equate the player's pick position at face value. Hindsight is 20/20 and the true draft order is revealed over time. For instance, Makar should've went 1st overall in 2017. Based on Klimovich's progress as an 18/19 year old in the AHL, he probably will be valued higher than 41st, maybe even 1st round. Canucks likely decline for this reason.
