Rakell for Pettersson and Kapanen

Created by: Chigurrhh
Team: 2021-22 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 14, 2022
Published: Mar. 14, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Anaheim gets Pettersson back to replace Lindholm (who will probably be traded). Gets Kapanen, who will probably be pretty cheap and easy to re-sign.

Penguins get Rakell who might not be that good anymore but can potentially help the middle six and clears cap space for next season.

Pettersson isn't the guy I would chose to move (because Dumoulin is older and struggling) but he is the guy Sullivan is choosing to scratch in favor of Friedman.

This leaves the Penguins with room for a big move as well.

I actually kinda like it. Now that Ducks has made it clear they'll be retooling that core a bit I could see the sense behind bringing some new faces for the core they're building.

Well without Manson and Lindholm, they need competent NHL defensemen and he's exactly that. S5ykjJo.png

you lost me at "Rakell who might not be good anymore". Wut r Wie doin hure, bud? Also Petterson replacing Lindholm? Really dude? Mad bias here.
Rakell to the Pens would be cool but its gonna be for future assets. Not in the mood to be swapping chairs and letting the pens off easy for their mistakes.

Rakell has absolutely declined from his peak. Fans tend to have a hard to grasping when that happens. "How dare you say this guy who was good in 2016 isn't that good anymore!" It's dumb and you should stop. Accusing me of bias for that is hilarious. Have some self-awareness, bud.

Pettersson replacing Lindholm in the lineup doesn't mean he's as good as Lindholm. He's a solid middle pairing guy that does well defensively.

“Have some self awareness bud” as you trade an over paid D man back to place he was already traded from. So like you said, have some self awareness bud.

Players get traded back to to where they started all the time. I’m not sure why that is so mind blowing for you. He’s also worth about what he’s being paid as a second pairing type.

I come from the pov if Verbeek gets a 2nd and a b- prospect for Rakell he did well on the trade. Im just saying your pitch is awful. Kapanen is probably gonna be more expensive and less productive than Rakell. On the other hand, Pettersson is serviceable as you say. But, ANA should not be taking up contracts like his. Thus, this is less of "How dare you say this guy who was good in 2016 isn't that good anymore!" and more of a "Not in the mood to be swapping chairs and letting the pens off easy for their mistakes." Rakell is a fine player. Will probably reach 20 goals this year and is pretty cheap. IDK this trade seems like a bad deal and is oddly beneficial for the Pens, who are at the end of their competition window.

I'd decline if I'm the Ducks. Would prefer to target younger assets in return for their UFAs that will be able to help the team in 3-5 years when they're really competing. Neither Pettersson nor Kapanen feel like they fit within the long-term plan, and I think they can certainly get that elsewhere.

Not exactly sure what you mean by letting the pens off easy for their “mistakes”. The pens didn’t make any mistakes. It’s not like they really want to trade Pettersson or Pettersson has been bad by any stretch. It’s a matter of the pens have a cheaper guy that’s likely to be just as good and a cheaper guy that’s also been playing really well for less than league minimum. If the pens didn’t have to abide by the cap, they’d be all for keep MP and trading futures for Rakell. But with how long Anaheim has been rebuilding and given the age of some of their younger players, MP kinda fits in and would make sense. It’s not like Anaheim wants to take another 5-7 years to rebuild. I think they are close and just need a few more pieces and a couple of younger vets to compete. MP is a younger vet who is also kinda cheap for a top 4 D

So why you trading him for a rental?

Because cap space is needed for next year and the Penguins currently have too many LD making 4 million and their best prospect is a LD. Dumoulin would be my preference to trade but the coach likes him too much.

Well it doesn’t much matter as the ducks aren’t trading Rakell for that package.
