lmao the habs trade is a nope oh and shocker look who published it a habs fan they arent gonna butcher their prospect pool to not get far in the playoffs

Johnston is a first round last year, 23 overall. Stankoven is a 2nd round pick in 2021, 47 overall. Both are right handed centers. Both are dominating their respective league right now.

Actually i think this is close to a fair trade. Throw in that 2022 2nd (You don't need Tyler Motte anyway) and i think MTL do it.

Chiarot for Johnston (worth a 1st)
Lehkonen for Stankoven (worth a 2nd) and 2022 2nd

These trades are horrible for the Stars.

A 4th liner isn’t worth a 2nd, and that Montreal trade is absolutely terrible. I wouldn’t trade Johnston for anything on their roster let alone Chiarot who’s at best Dallas’s 5th best dman with Heiskanen out, and Lehkonen who’s pretty good, but still a 3rd line winger on a good team, plus Dallas is adding their 3rd best prospect Stankoven who has great offensive upside, plus a 3rd. From Dallas’s POV it’s like them offering Hakanpaa and Gurianov both half retained for Caufield, Suzuki and a 3rd.

With how Johnston is playing I project him to pass Hintz in a few years and the Prime version of Seguin back in the day, and Stankoven projects to be a 2nd/1st line winger with an elite goal scoring ability.

Wyatt Johnston is on pace to put up the most points in the OHL for an 18-year old since the 2014-2015 season. Dallas isn't trading him alone for that package. If the 2021 draft happened tomorrow, Johnston is a fringe top-10 pick. He's the closest thing to an untouchable prospect that the Stars have had since Heiskanen was a prospect.

He's not going to be traded for a bottom-6 defensive forward & a 2nd pair defenseman

Now that they're seemingly keeping Klin and their core isn't getting any younger it's not unlikely that Dallas trades away good future assets to make a big push. I don't agree either on trade value here but hold your horses, comparing Johnston and Stan to Caufield and Suzuki is wild... Without a single game in the NHL yet, what you're expecting them to become are only hopes as we sit here today whereas the other pair are proven NHLers with the same upside. Montreal is likely looking to fill holes as soon as possible so Dellandrea would make much more sense anyways considering they won't have to wait 3 years to get the prospect going. Lehkonen is unlikely to be moved so a Chiarot for Dellandrea starting point could make sense considering Miro's injury.

I get that my comparisons are a little far fetch, but you get the point. I can give you the Caufeild-Stankoven one because best case scenario Stankoven becomes like him, but Johnston if he continues his development will become a far better player. Johnston's on pace to be better than Hintz and he's about the same player as Suzuki if not better.

I'll say it like this: Johnston, Bourque, Stankoven and Harley aren't being moved regarding as prospects. Dellandrea is the highest ranked one that could be moved, but these two players are exactly what Dallas has and don't need: defence and grit.
