Description
Forsberg is a pending UFA, no idea if Ottawa will be able to re-sign him so I'm assuming they move him at the deadline and maybe hope to bring him back in the summer cause he's been really good. He's the goaltending insurance I think the Leafs will try to add (similar to Ritich last year but better). Once Jack is healthy again they'll keep 3 tenders on the roster or waive Mrazek if he's still struggling (I doubt he would be claimed at this point).

The Sens don't seem to like MDZ, he's included to save the Sens real dollars and you could argue gives the Leafs some additional depth should they get hit with a bunch of injuries on D. His contract is also backloaded so I bet the Sens have additional motivation to move him.

Kerfoot is currently playing on the 4th line which isn't enough ice time for him to contribute as is. Ideally I wouldn't want to trade him cause he's good forward depth but I think the Sens would value him as a Tierney type replacement (Tierney is a pending UFA as well) and his contract is front-loaded so it's less in real $ compared to his cap hit. Assuming the Leafs were to move Kerfoot its almost a guarantee they make another trade to bring in a forward.

I think the Sens would value a prospect like Abruzzese they seem to scout the NCAA heavily. He currently costs them nothing and I thought he played really well at the Olympics.

The 5th round pick is the inter-divisional trade tax

Overall the move would save the Leafs 600K in cap space which may give them more room for another big move while not depleting the Leafs of their best trade assets (1st round pick, top prospects etc).

lol sorry what? forward is not our biggest need you have to be joking

need an upgrade in net and on D before we need a forward. It'd be nice but not as pressing as an upgrade over can't-stop-a-beach-ball-mrazek

I assure you their biggest need at the moment is between the pipes. I have a lot of faith in Campbell bouncing back when he returns but Mrzaek has been comically awful and I doubt he can bounce back this season.

I agree they need to bolster their forward group as well which is why I said this would be 1 deal I think they could make which would still leave lots of options to add a forward (ideally a 2LW).

Yea, it is. A top 6 lw is by far the leafs biggest need. Scoring has been their issue for the past 2 playoffs,
Campbell will be back and wont be horrible as he has been once healthy and this would make the leafs f depth much worse.
And even If they want forsberg hes worth a 3rd, and taking delzotto would make the sens have to add because thats a big ol cap dump

I assure you that weakening the forwards now and in the long run to get a backup goalie and an ahl defender is a horrible mood.
Back up goalies get low picks, not top 6 forwards

Oh don't get me wrong I think this trade makes no sense and I wouldnt involve kerfoot. I think at best they make a hockey trade and swap Kerfoot for a somewhat equivalent forward and play that guy with willy and JT but especially with Muzzin's status the prospects and draft capital should be spent addressing goaltending and defence

Depends what you mean by prospects and draft capital. They probably should do another rittich type trade for a goalie anyway, but they shouldn't be spending anything more than 3rds and c prospects on guys, especially the hilarious prices being asked for 55 year old MAF, and unless they can get a real top end guy like chychrun, spending more than depth prices also doesnt make sense.

Del Zotto has negative value. Attaching him to a solid piece like Forsberg would not be smart. In all likely hood right now, Ottawa is keeping Forsberg unless someone really offers up something strong to chase the pain away.

i mean i think i do that as the sens but i dont really see why the leafs do, they can probably add Forsberg without giving up kerfoot and MDZ isint that much of a boat anchor that the sens need to pair him off with forsberg anyways

Comically awful may be the best description for Mrazek I have seen of late.

And I think the few posters ragging on trading Kerfoot (who I think is great) are missing your note of the leafs further adding at forward.

Ideally a solid 1B goalie pickup. And a power forward esque player. Personally I think our defence is not the problem unlike others. Just hard to prove when your goalies can’t stop a beach ball.

I think they should trade for a longer term option in net. Mack Blackwood maybe? Hasn't been great but is supposedly on the market. Maybe overpay a bit for a proven goalie under contract if possible. Varlamov would be this playoffs plus next year which could work out well, probably the best option. Would have to move Mrazek somehow though
