That's an interesting idea. Originally I figured Dermott could be a depth add for the Avs but something like this could make sense too now that the Avs blueline is looking a bit overcrowded. Both teams could filter these guys through a 3rd team to get 50% retained as well.

Yeah I doubt they trade mikheyev unless they have a ton of moves coming around the roster. I think a Jost for Dermott move could make sense there would have to be a pick attached to Dermott tho

I think this move is more likely but interesting proposals all around.

There is just no reason for Colorado to go for Dermott anymore though. I agree it seems a bit odd to move Mikheyev, but I guess I figured they move Kase up and maybe go after a different forward. Idk though. There is nothing super obvious.

i dont think murray has that value. he's been underwhelming. besides with girard and byram out i think it makes sense to hold him for now.

i think what freidman was thinking about was a goalie trade. varly to the avs and kuemper to the leafs.

Why the hell would Colorado do that? Kuemper is their guy. Anything around him is just nonsense.

Murray has been better lately and seems like a guy Dubas might be interested in. You can maybe balance the trade, but the idea is for each to take away from a strength to try and address a weakness.

if i remember right i think the speculation was they were concerned about kuempers health.

i think the leafs have depth defenseman cover. sandin, liljegren, lyubushkin, holl, dermott.

I'm not a podcast guy, so I have no idea. Saw the mention here though: https://thehockeywriters.com/maple-leafs-avalanche-2022-trade-partners/

Seems weird at best to give up a first and Timmins for a guy and then become concerned about his injury history after a mostly healthy year.

it does. but i also think it has more to do with next year too. kuempers gonna need a couple year commitment to sign while varly still has a year of term.

Avs are clearly all-in on this year so next year is tomorrow's problem.

If anything it would probably be the Avs adding a pick. Dermott's caphit is lower and Dmen are more valuable than forwards in general.

If they're looking to optimize capspace then Murray out, Dermott in would make sense. Dermott also has term and would be useful as a 6/7D next year who can play to the Avs style.

Murray has been underwhelming, but he's also been playing in a system that's difficult for Dmen to fit into unless they have elite skating. For example Ian Cole looked like a replacement level Dman in Colorado but is now doing well in Carolina. Zadorov is looking good in Calgary too after never working out in Colorado.

Murray doesn't have high value though, but I wouldn't only use this season as a measuring stick for him. He could be a solid add for a playoff team if the Avs decide to move him.

The goalie talk involving Colorado/Toronto seems like noise. Maybe something in the off-season could be done like Colorado getting Campbell's rights before UFA if Kuemper doesn't want to stay, but right now the Avs have no reason to change goalies.
