At this point Allen is not an upgrade over Koskinen so no thanks.

Koskinen + Allen vs. Koskinen + Smith
Not Koskinen vs. Allen

Koskinen wasn't good in the playoffs. Smith hasn't won a playoff game with Edmonton. Factoring in Smith's age, injuries, and performance this season, do you want him as your plan B for a deep playoff run?
Koskinen is already a risk given his previous post season results. If he falters can Smith handle 20ish consecutive starts and remain healthy?
Skinner is inexperienced and a last resort. By the time you need to use him, you're likely on the verge of elimination.

Allen at least has experience, can handle a lot of starts, is younger, and less susceptible to injury.
There are other options, but I wouldn't want to go into the playoffs with what Edmonton currently has.

I dont disagree with your logic. But Allen still has term left after this season, so for this to work Smith would have to be moved(would be difficult), otherwise it would be a Allen/Smith tandem next yr, which is not good. Not to mention... Is Allen even going to be healthy by time playoffs role around??

Allen would be their 4th best goalie, just above Smith.

Allen is terrible so why give up good assets for a below average back up? And he's hurt anyways so hard pass.

The proposal might need to include Smith for that reason. I'm not saying the trade works as proposed, only that Allen would be a good idea to have.

Edmonton will still be in the market for a starter next year regardless. Allen would then be a 1B or backup as opposed to another year older Smith.

Allen is close to a return. Montreal has no reason to rush him back into action. GM's check those things before making a deal so any trade would assume he's 100% before it happened.

He's better than his numbers show. I also said there are other options. If Allen isn't the guy, they need to find somebody that can potentially save a playoff run if Koskinen struggles.
