Maybe slotting Jost between Fiala and Boldy can bring out some offensive upside and I had a hard time seeing us re-signing Sturm next year. Sturm will certainly help the Avs PK for the playoffs this year and we get the player with term. I'm guess I'm ok with it.

Based on AGMs I was under the assumption that Guerin wasn't about to do any changes to that core, considering that pretty much every single Wild trade there were were also declined by MIN fans.

The best part of this is the most corporate looking press release the Wild had for it:

They forgot to add "he/him/his"

I'm honestly confused why this happened

Cap space for Colorado.

The better player with term for Minnesota.

Unless Jost gets flipped at the deadline or at the draft, Guerin just added $2 million to next year’s cap. I wonder if he sees Jost as a replacement (on a line with Boldy and Rossi) for when Fiala is no longer affordable.

Good trade for both sides. Avs are clearly going for Giroux or another big cap hit.

From a Jets fans' perspective, with Colorado rumoured to be interested in Copp I was hoping Jost would be a potential piece going back

Colorado just opening up cap space to go after Giroux from the Flyers for the remainder of the year and a long playoff run!

Like it for Minnesota, Colorado loses some cap (Good for them they have another move coming for sure).... But I was never a big fan of Sturm, I like Jost a lot more

I think Minnesota wins because Jost is better with more control. But this obviously means Colorado is going after some big, probably Giroux.

Fair. Sturm is better right now but Jost is younger

Seems like COL is really trying to get bigger before going into the playoffs. Just added 6'3" 218lbs Josh Manson and now 6'3" 209lbs Nico Sturm

I'd take Sturm over Jost as a C, but pure value wise Jost is worth more. Don't see any other reason for Minnesota to make this exchange beyond hoping Jost has more offensive potential as a C, but 40% faceoffs are concerning.

Potential versus need, Colorado wins for now considering cap space. Have to see if Jost can do more in a new situation.

I think this is interesting because both profile well with advanced metrics. Jost has been played lower down the lineup with the Avs because they're so deep. Sturm has been playing down the Wild lineup cause they seemingly don't know he's good. Presumably Minnesota will give Jost a chance in the top 9 or 6. I just wonder why they didn't give Sturm more of a shake there. He's a classic ice-tiler, while Jost is mostly a positive defensively.

People always get excited about the most active teams at TDL when in fact the real contenders usually do very little.

Sakic is giving away mid/long term assets to go all in and will probably fall short anyway.

One also is signed for quite a bit less and is better on offense, penalty-killing, and still has good even strength defense and a solid penalty differential (JFresh's player card is on twitter). Considering that this is Colorado's year to go all-in, and this is probably made with the intent to acquire Giroux, this is a fair trade.

They're pretty equally good. Sturm is a UFA and Jost is 24, but cap hit is better for sturm, and avs have cap space for giroux / Miller. Why in the world is guerin giving cap space to the avs to help them acquire giroux. Is guerin dumb? These guys can face off in the 2nd round, and this could be the start of domino's.
Both Teams lose out somehow, but honestly really fair trade.
If I had to say which team won, it would be Colorado.
