Description
I can guarantee that this will at least bait one Canucks fan into having an aneurism over a fake hockey deal on a website full of fellow wannabe know it all GMs.

EDIT: Yes, yes it worked. Cue the Palpatine “everything has gone as I have foreseen”

Just a late night food for thought. This deadline is hard to judge with players coming on and off the block and different outlets reporting different values and interests. Don’t take this too seriously. No need to argue over these.

And yes, I know that every team out there could offer better deals than these, especially your favorite team ;)

Basically this breaks down to Garland for Pettersson, Clang and a 2nd; Hoglander for Heinen, Legare and a 3rd.

This is going off of rumors that those two may be expendable, Hoglander more so. Young players tend to be sold for lower than their value in these situations.

I know what the Canucks gave up for Garland this past summer. This is different management and it’s known that they want to shed some salary. Think of it as paying that price for what you get here and the ability to extend JT and Boeser if you’d like.

It’s hard to gauge both Kulak’s value and Kapanen’s value. One is a rental depth D while the other is a very underperforming, young winger. That trade can be a wash, don’t get to caught up in it.

Lines could go as seen below, or they can go:
Jake - Sid - ERod
Hoglander - Geno - Rust
Zucker - Carter - Garland
McGinn - Teddy - ZAR

Friedman deserves to play as of right now. Injuries are bound to happen. Kulak just adds depth. Friedman could play with Marino, Matheson or Ruhwedel in my opinion. Kulak could play with Marino or Ruhwedel. It just depends on where you want Dumo and Matheson.

If you have any questions about the prospects in the VAN deal, feel free to ask, I can give my opinion and analysis on them.

Thanks for reading, I hope everyone enjoys the lead up to the deadline!

It’d make sense for the Canucks, sure. Not the Penguins, however. While we know VAN wants Marino, it has also been reported that they are high on MP as well, which is what made me comfortable using him in here instead. It’d be interesting to put Marino in here and then do a subsequent deal to get a middle pair RD. Thanks for the comment!

Garland and Hoglander are worth way more than the individual breakdowns you did

I’m sure they are to some and I’m sure they aren’t to others. Only time will tell I suppose. Thanks for the comment.

Ya cause Garland is worth more than a 2nd and a LHD we don't have room for, and Hoglander is considered a steal for the 2nd round

I’d say even with trading MP that the Kulak trade is unnecessary. Tbh I’m not big on trading Heinen either. He is having a career year and is solid for the 3rd line next year. I’d rather just nix the MTL trade and send Kap to Vancouver to replace Heinen in that deal.

Vancouver declines. Vancouver would want Marino for Garland and it's unlikely they move Hoglander. I don't know much about Clang but we don't really need goalie prospects and the other guys in the trade are pretty average in my opinion.

I considered that. I just wanted to replace some of the lost draft capital and Kulak has some really good defensive analytics similar to what MP brings. Thanks for the comment

And the pens would want JT Miller for Dominik Simon. But we know JR and Allvin are big on MP too and the pens have zero interest in trading Marino. Friedman has already clarified that any trade with Vancouver would have to be Pettersson out of the two and that Vancouver is interested in Pettersson too. They’d just prefer Marino.

Well as per The Athletic, the Canucks may be willing to move Hoglander. Just going off of that, I don’t claim to be in the room with ole JR. For what it’s worth, JR has always liked having a multitude of goalie prospects and outside of Wallstedt, Clang is one of the best goalie prospects in Sweden. Thanks for the comment

oh for sure, it's all in fun at the end of the day, but sometimes with teams being out west it might be abit harder to follow so just trying to help provide insight grin

If you kept Heinen and did the Vancouver trade with Kapanen you could ultimately trade ERod for draft capital and/or depth defense.

Trust me, I love watching Canucks games. Really fun game against NJD tonight. I wouldn’t trade for these guys if I didn’t like them! I think it’s easy for us to see value in our own teams players and I think this website is a great tool to learn about other teams and how their players are performing. Granted, some people take it way too seriously. Appreciate your helpful insight and the nice comment cheers

The problem with trading ERod is, sure, his goal scoring stopped, however he offers lineup diversity in playing both wing and center. He also is analytically one of the top players in brining the puck into the offensive zone which is something that we can often have trouble with. I also like him on that second powerplay. Heinen is solid and definitely someone to try and keep. With this scenario, I just thought Hoglander made him expendable. If I redid this and took Hoglander out, I would take out Heinen too!

I don't think MP has much value even if Rutherford and Allvin like him. A reporter (I think it was Frank Servali) said the other day that Pittsburgh is trying to move MP but nobody is willing to take that contract. I think a Myers for MP swap could make some sense for both teams.

Hard No. Hogs is not a guy van needs to be trading, especially for a veteran LHD in MP. Garland trade would need to have Marino back.

Garland for Marino 1 for 1. That's the trade.
