2022 Deadline Trades

Created by: FLPensFan
Team: 2021-22 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 16, 2022
Published: Mar. 16, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Chicago, who is looking to rebuild, gives up a good young rising forward, but gains a solid middle pair LD as well as a 1st round draft pick. Pittsburgh gives up a 1st as part of the deal, but gains some additional draft capital.

Arizona picks up another draft pick as it continues to load up on them to rebuild the team. They also pickup a young forward in exchange for Crouse. Kapanen has had some success (good success in Year 1 with PIT), but hasn't fit in well this year. Pittsburgh may need to add a mid-level prospect to this deal as well.

Karmanos has good knowledge of the Pittsburgh system. Let him have his pick of any mid-level prospects (I think Bjorkqvist may be of interest) plus a late round pick for Hagg.

In the end, Pittsburgh adds some toughness and scoring in Crouse, some speed/scoring and a guy who will go to the net in Hagel, and a more physical defender with Hagg. They also add 2 younger forwards, and clear some cap space for future seasons.

You want Hagel, 1st + a top prospect.
Were not adding two picks and we surely aren't taking Petterson back.

What's Chicago's plan for LD next season? De Haan and Gustafsson are UFA. Pettersson is an upgrade over Caleb Jones or Riley Stillman. Chicago is getting a 1st in this deal, plus a solid 2nd pairing defensemen who is only 25 years old.

Plenty of FA options if we plan on being semi-decent, and if not, we still have McCabe to take the brunt of minutes and let our younger guys get some time on the back end

We're rebuilding, so the plan SHOULDN'T be to try to compete .

Still have McCabe on the left side, Stillman is pretty solid and personally at his cap hit I'd much rather have him than Petterson. The last spot goes to one of the young guys who are ready for a legitimate shot in the League. Kalynuk, Beaudin, Galvas, even Mitchell. Petterson just limits our ability to try to actually develop our young d-man.

Hawks have a lot of young defensemen like Pettersson in the pipeline and they'll need to play. Hawks are looking for top level forward prospects plus picks. I don't think they'd give up Hagel plus picks.

A 1st and Sam Poulin for Hagel would still work for the overall concept, as Hagel and Crouse would still fit under Penguins cap by shipping out Kapanen.
