This is major win for Gallant as well. Taking Hunt out of the lineup for Vatrano is gonna boost the middle six. Just need Kakko back and 1-2 more additions to solidify this group for the playoffs.

Who’d have thought Florida would be a seller? Everybody needs depth, and Vatrano has been a good player for them. He got pushed down the depth chart because of other forwards being brought in over the past 12 months, but he was still a starter and could have played higher in the lineup if somebody got hurt. It only makes sense to clear a bit of cap space for another move. Whether this is a good trade for them will depend on whether they can make that other move.

For New York the benefits are immediate, the price is cheap (I can’t believe they had to put the condition on the pick), and they have enough cap space that this won’t impact their ability to make another move if they want to. It also gives them a chance to test drive Vatrano to see if they want to sign him beyond this season. I see no way they can lose on this one, so they get my vote.

So Florida clears cap space for a bigger fish and NY gets depth scoring. Huge W for both sides

NYR gets a part time goal scorer for the rest of the season, some assists. Florida makes room for Marchment (not Marshment), at 800K for the balance of the season, and Toronto lost.

I think this will be the last addition the Rangers make at the deadline. I mean I guess I can see them taking on retained salary this year to facilitate a trade of a big name to another team in order to get more picks they can use this offseason to land a bigger fish.

Rangers get a good top 6 guy. Will he stay on the team after this season though? Not sure, Rangers are about to be in cap hell with all of the big contracts that come into effect next season

the rangers ripped off the Panthers. The Rangers got the better end of the deal.

Sad to see Frank the Tank go. He is a hard working guy who is impossible to dislike. Good luck in NY, Frank. You will be missed in South Florida.
