the difference between a FLA 1st and a MON/OTT/SEA/ARI/PHI 2nd will be about 3-4 players lol

Sure this year, but who knows in 2023

Wow I thought maybe a 1st by itself was on the table but a 4th and Smilanic too..... Im flabbergasted but good for the Habs! Hughes nailed this.

Maybe I'm crazy, but how many Panthers this year are having Career years? I don't see that as sustainable, but even so, next years draft is apparently deep so it not complaining if they are still this good.

Insiders yes. GMs no.

The GMs didn't speak until just now.

Insiders are always full of hot air and miss just as often as they hit.

🙄

The real insiders (TSN, sportnet) are journalists citing sources in NHL teams administrations (scouts, GMs, etc)

Also, it was know for weeks what Hugue's asking price was. He's a GM, isn't he?

The only hot air is here...

Asking price and trade value are not the same thing.

TBH, Chiarot was going to get a first, Habs fans were just cocky about it, he is a big minute munching defenseman with size, he will be good for them in the playoffs but the question I have with Florida, is that they still have cap space to make more trades, 2m I think, he's not done.

No one doubted the first, everyone knew a team would overpay. It was the constant 1st and a team top prospect that makes them absolute knuckle draggers

I’m happy as hell that it happened....but damn Zito be like “lottery protection? Never heard of it...”

Hey all you suckers! It finally f****** happened! "He's terrible " only should get a 4th" where are you people? Ypu just got busted by Habs fans!
2023 draft is better than this one, and unprotected so large W. Simalnic is a good prospect, and a 4th on top of that. Don't tell me that hughes fleeced, because any gm woudo get this amount of value in chiarot 1000%.
Their defense is nasty:
Chiarot - Ekblad
Forsling - Weegar
Montour- Gudas
wasn’t your point all along a 1st and Pelletier?? Everyone knew he’d get a first, it’s an overpay but it’s the TDL…. The constant 1st and an A prospect was what people clowned Habs fans for as they should.

Great deal for the Habs. No one doubted that a team would overpay with a first. Prospect and a 4th to retain is the fleece job here.

Chiarot was an endlessly frustrating player in his time here. He’s not good defensively and the amount of penalties he takes is awful.

Although during Montréal’s playoff run he was actually a net-positive, so maybe when the refs put the whistles away Chiarot’s usefulness will increase for the Panthers.

Looks like I have to eat my hat.

If that's what rental defensemen are going for these days, I really hope LA stays away from any and all defenseman on the trade market.

Kudos for probably being the only one that will admit it.
Everyone else will say Florida is wrong before admitting they were. (As they already are.)

Florida got what they felt they needed and they paid about the price that was expected. They didn't get fleeced.
They may have added a little to top other offers and make the deal happen before the deadline to ensure they weren't going to be outbid, but that's reasonable.

People tried to deny it as much as they could, but Chiarot was definitely going to fetch a 1st.

It was a heck of a three years, Big Ben, the most polarizing defenseman in Habs recent memory. Eye-test people loved him, analytics people hated him. Truth is, you will be missed in Montréal.

Florida just became even more dangerous for the playoffs.

Even in my eye test I hated him and I'm no analytics person.

i mean i saw a lot of overpay, but everyone was saying how bad he is and how he'll not get a first to be fair. just look at the thread about manson , everyone there saw it as proof that chiarot would get less.

It's actually stupid how dumb some gms are, I know they are going for a stanley cup but Chiarot was at most worth a 2nd. Easy Canadiens win and it's not even close

Or maybe GMs know what they're doing more than average Joes online.

Rumblings, playoff performance etc. if Bennett basically got 2 2nds for playoffs performance, Chiarot could get the same, retaining, lower cap hit, position of need leads to a first. He hasnt been good this year, partially cause of how bad Montreal is and partially because he’s a middling D man. 3 and a 4 is a fleece. The constant 1st and Holloway or Pelletier was a joke. Habs fans know that as well as anyone.
