Well, I came back from dinner and saw this trade and wanted to be the first to admit that I was wrong about Chiarot's value, but here I am on page 4.

I was wrong.

I was absolutely wrong.

I apologize to all Montreal fans whom I savaged in tons of ACGMs about Chiarot.

Crow is not an appetizing meal.

Well luckily that ain't happening.

Yeah Florida paid a steep prize for him for sure.
But out off the pieces that were out there I think they got the one they needed for win-now mentality.

This trade got basically tampa-series written all over it.
With Chiarot out there its less likely Perry, Maroon and Killorn hack the rebounds in without fear of bodily harm.

Florida needed grit, we are so soon to forget the refs are about to change their calls again come playoffs. Its the time for those "slow and takes too many minor penalties" guys to shine.
If this gives Bobrovski more space to see the pucks, more slack for dropping a few juicy rebounds etc. it just might be worth the, admittedly hefty, prize.
Once again looking Tampa: Hedman, Sergachev, Cernak, Bogosian.... comes playoff their goal front is not a nice place to be by any means.

If you go back and look at the numbers you'll see he wasn't actually a net positive during the playoffs last year.

Montreal wasn't a top regular season team last year though, and haven't been for years.

Did it? This just took the biggest spender off the board. Minus one buyer, minus one seller. I don't think this changed the market much... if anything, it will push prices down. There are more available defensemen than there are motivated buyers.

No doubt being part of Montreal’s playoff run last year inflated Chiarot’s value, but when you consider that the 4th-round pick is the one that they just got for Vatrano, what Florida gave up here is pretty close to what Calgary gave up for Toffoli. That makes absolutely no sense.

the fact that gustafson is rated so high and got positive numbers is all i need to know to not care about these stats. he is legitemely the worst defenseman i've seen in a habs jersey in a while. (im glad he is doing a bit better with the hawks but he was truly horrible for the habs).

He got at least 1 first rounder. Zito was smart enough to stop short of the 4 straight that Habs fans wanted for him.

Yeah very strange. I do remember someone saying after the Toff trade went down that the term remaining on his contract was more of a detriment than an asset because so many potential suitors were cap-strapped batons this year
