A players worth isn't based on your opinion, or the opinion of analytics nerds who have never set foot on the ice and played an actual NHL game. It's based on how much value he brings to the team that wants/acquires him. It will only be a dumb move if they don’t win or make a long run. If Tampa had been out in the first round after Brisebois gave Foote, 2 1st round pick for Goodrow and Coleman he would probably have no job anymore. Instead he looked like a genius. It’s always relative to the result you got out of the trade.

I have made a lot of Chiarot trade proposals that looked something similar to what they got. Everyone called me nuts. The hate for Chiarot is INSANE. Good deal for Montreal. I am excited to have Montreal be competitive! Always fun having a good Montreal vs Toronto Rivalry. Good thing is they don't need to do a full rebuild since Bergevin left the organization in a very good position.

Armia might have negative value based on his contract. He is a solid player but he is not playing up to his contract currently. If Montreal can get anything for him, they should take it. They have too much cap on the wings. But if they keep him, it isn't the worst thing in the world. He can definitely step up his game and live up to his contract.

A lot of people forget that was a huge reason they got such huge returns. Both were on extremely cheap deals for that extra season
