I mean the trade is an NHL 22 trade @BuFfaLOFaN pointed that out. But Calgary's got to keep up with Sakic's Avalanche to have a hope to get far.

fair deal imo. Seattle needs draft picks & Jankrok is a good third liner

I voted fair deal.

This is a non-exhaustive list of other forwards that went for a 2nd and a 3rd:

Viktor Arvidsson
Mattias Janmark
Nikita Gusev
Andrew Shaw
Andre Burakovsky
Gustav Nyquist
Mats Zuccarello

Jarnkrok is guaranteed to pot at least 10 goals a season.

He is a solid middle 6 winger that can take face-offs and kill penalties.

His cap hit/salary is only 2 million.

He's a solid addition for Calgary and he is worth the price they paid.

Like many of the names listed above.

With what's going on, Lehky probably gets a 1st and a B prospect.

People will start to understand how worthy cap retention is this year.

I imagine Bill Zito and Brad Treliving are in a call right now looking over these trades like the business card scene in American Psycho. It's only a matter of time before Holland barges into the room, nearly bouncing off of his feet in eagerness, showing the two the 2 first-round picks and Yamamoto for Jake DeBrusk through a shaking hand.

Especially in the NHL, you take the proven player over the picks...how many 1st and 2nd rd guys don't pan out...let alone 3rd and beyond. I respect the patience strategy by Seattle in their first season, but Calgary getting the better player makes them the clear winners. IMO

The real winners are all the other sellers out there. Det may actually get a 2nd for Namestikov now! Virtually indentical player to Calle.

NHL 22 Trade lol
So Calle Jarnkrok returns more than Taylor Hall?

Miller > Manson
Hinostroza =< Jarnkrok

I can only hope Karmanos will be doing the dealing.

It's a very cheap bottom-six player for three magic beans, two of which are not even this season. I think it is a fair deal, if the Flames go deep and drop that 2nd as far back as possible. Otherwise, it is a slight overpayment, IF Seattle doesn't whiff on that second-rounder.

It's not normal second. It is a late second. Maybe very late second. The Flames have practically guaranteed a playoff spot and will very likely win the first round. So you are looking at a pick in the late 50s. There's less than a 15% chance they will play 100 games during their entire careers.

As for the other two picks, Järnkrok will likely be retired before either of them play a game in the NHL, so giving them away for $1 million in cap space seems okay.

I think Seattle won, but it isn't that far off of a fair trade.

I just realized it's Florida's pick. I could see them getting knocked out of the first round, but they could also make it to the finals and I wouldn't be surprised. If this is 60th pick of later, then Calgary wins.

A second-rounder has a less than 14% chance of playing 100 or more games in the NHL. This could easily be 60th or higher, so that's probably 10% chance. The third rounded could be nearly 100th overall and the seventh rounder will likely never play in the AHL.

Was hoping for a 2nd Round pick in return for Calle, so pleased to see Francis got that. I think the cap retention is probably worth a 4th and then it's the likely lateness of the 2nd (I can see Florida going deep) and competitive situation which drives that up to a 3rd + 7th. I'm not surprised there was competition for Jarnkrok, he's versatile, provides secondary scoring and can operate on the PK, he's been a bright spot in a dismal Kraken squad since before Christmas. I don't see it as overpayment though, especially as the Flames now have just enough space to make one more move if they want to and that flexibility when you're going all in is definitely worth the lower picks, which as noted above all too often come to nowt anyways.

I liked Jarnkrok in Nashville (haven’t seen him play much in Seattle). It’s a little more than I thought he would have gone for as a rental, so good trade for Seattle, but Calgary didn’t give up any prospects or roster players, and none of these picks are going to be in the top 55, so I think it’s a good deal for them too. Also, he might be somebody they were thinking they might want to sign this summer, so there’s value in being able to test drive him before they make that decision.

This kinda reminds me of what Columbus gave up for Sergei Bobrovsky.

with this trade there's a higher chance of the draft picks doing actually nothing.

Jarnkrok is a good player and a great fit for Calgary, but this was quite the overpay.

Wow nice job Seattle. Make the most of pending UFAs that have no future on the team. They could absolutely get a 1st for Gio.

I see a few comoparisons to Chiarot and want to point out that:

1. Järnkrok is better
2. Järnkrok is cheaper
3. Järnkrok cost less than Chiarot

They're both okay players - Järnkrok is a solid option on like a defensive 3rd line you're playing vs tougher opponents. These guys are usually available for less, but at the same time they're also almost always undervalued.
