I think he is the first guy to get traded for 2 1sts since Kessel (edit nope nvm happened to Schenn)

But still Tampa gets a guy on a good contract and who has shown he can be a top 9 talent. Hes 23 years old and as mentioned before on a good deal

https://twitter.com/Woodguy55/status/1419769661516771337

That was his chart in Chicago 2 years ago. He was basically their most trusted guy

So while yes this is an overpay, Tampa trying to go get another cup so I dont think they give a ****.

am i the only one who doesnt like this trade for chicago? Hagel is super young and theres a big difference between giving up 2 firsts, and moving up from the early 4th to the late 1st. plus raddysh and katchouk are likely depth call up guys

How do you know if Raddysh and Katchouk are only depth call up guys? They haven't been given a real chance to play in the NHL. They're probably overdeveloped in Syracuse because they're not going to over take guys like Stamkos, Kucherov, Palat, Killorn, etc... That's not a realistic expectation to have for any prospect trying to jump into the NHL. They're just a stacked team. I don't know Katchouk, but I have watch Raddysh develop in Erie because he was teammates with Debrincat. Raddysh is good. I'm not suggesting he'll become an all-star, but I do very much think he'll be a solid contributor even this year.

For being the CapFriendly page I would have expected people to take into consideration the contract side as well. This trade is A ****ING MAZING for Tampa.
Hagel is not only young and skilled. He's on a 1.5M AAV contract for 3 playoffs runs, then still RFA without arbitration rights.

2 first round picks for that? Sign me up. Oh but wait, Tampa's 1st rounders are likely to be in the 28-32 range. And they get back 2 fourth rounders from a Chicago team in a rebuilding mode, so 2 early 4th rounders. Raddysh and K. weren't really cutting it this season for us.

This trade is a JBB masterclass and you can't convince me otherwise.

Massive overpay for a player with an unsustainable 22% shooting percentage. Yikes.

Stevey Y is good at drafting, and he’s in detroit now

Al Murray is good at drafting. And he's still in Tampa.

I agree. This is fantastic for Tampa. Katchouk and Raddysh could be good players, but they weren't that right now. It wouldn't shock me if they blossom in Chicago with more ice time, though, but Tampa needs the right-now contributor, and Hagel IS that.

. Fair deal IMO, the two 1st might end up being 32 and katchouk and raddysh are fringe NHLERS with 4th line/3rd line potentiel

This is a great deal for both Chicago and Tampa Bay. It's a horrible deal if you're Florida, Boston or Toronto because Hagel is gonna be a menace to you for at least 3 years.

I realize he's got decent stats and more importantly a cheap contract but there's no denying we gave up a good amount

I have 2 thoughts:

1. It’s a massive overpay.

2. No one will care if Tampa wins another cup.

If we win the division this season or win cup in next 3 years then its a win.

Pretty sure the rational behind this was to become the 1st team in 39yrs to win 3 straight Cups and only the 4th team in NHL history to do so.

Think of it this way: downgrade 2 picks likely in the 28-32 range to early 4th rounders + 2 players that didn't provide much this season for Tampa for a skilled 23 y/o on an ascending trajectory with 21 goals this season on a brutal team, with a contract of 1.5M AAV for the next 3 playoff runs and after that he's RFA without arbitration rights.
Do you really think this is a massive overpay? I certainly don't.

If we knock the Panthers out of the playoffs after they spent to acquire Chiarot and possibly Giroux, then I see that as a win too.

Out of the 4 Major pro sports in North America there are only 9 teams to 3-peat. NHL - 4, MLB - 2, NBA -3 and the NFL - 1 (was accomplished before they had playoffs)

Ehh. People are acting as if the 2 1st we gave up are straight up picks given without picks in return. They aren't. It's basically as if we downgraded our late first to early 4th. Lol I'll take that any day of the week and twice on sunday for a 23 years old that has still a lot of margin to improve his ceiling and is on a liquid gold contract for at least 3 playoff runs.

The last time few times a player has been traded for “2 firsts” we’re guys like Duchene and Jones (and that’s stretching it) and Kessel. Hagel is no where near any of them.
