This was my thought around this trade idea, and its only an idea.
I don't think Stevie Y is all that happy about the vaccine status of Bertuzzi. By next season, Detroit will have to cross the border at least 10 times for games. If Detroit is going to try and make a playoff push next year, 10 games can make or break your season, especially when 6 of those trips are teams within your own division. By trading Bertuzzi to the Metro, those missed games goes down from 10 to 7 for Bertuzzi.
Detroit gets Provorov, who can be Seiders D partner. Detroit instantly gets that Top 2 pairing that they need. Provorov has term behind him and Detroit can easily take on his salary. I believe Yzerman likes to build his team from the net out. He got Ned in the offseason, and now he gets Provorov who can move the puck and has great vision on the ice. Also a great pairing for his younger Dman in Seider.
From the Flyers perspective, they get the type of player they have been missing for quite a while. Bertuzzi has come into his game a lot in the last couple of years, and his aggressive forecheck is something the Flyers have been lacking for quite some time. Bertuzzi would become an instant Flyer favourite because of his gameplay. He will also be able to produce which is ultimately what they flyers need, scoring.
Now typically I would view Detroit maybe having to give up a bit more in order to land Provorov, but the upside that I'm sure someone like Yzerman would pick up on is because of the border rules pertaining to Bertuzzi. If Bertuzzi continues to refuse to be vaccinated, that immediately drops his overall value, which will allow a team like Philly, to not have to give him a huge raise after his contract runs up, which will help their cap situation. It's this reason why this trade seems somewhat like a one-for-one deal.
If you read this far, thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing opinions.
