Trying it out

Created by: Jay27
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 19, 2022
Published: Mar. 19, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Leafs stabilize their goaltending, save over 2 mill in cap to add a TDL dman and add a high energy local depth player to the lineup.

Habs pick up the type of young speedy talented player they say they want(albeit a history of injuries) and another couple of picks. Sucks to take on Mrazek’s contract for a couple of years plus retaining on Allen’s for a year but meh that’s the price of doing business.

Allen is not much better than Mrazek and Pezzeta isn’t good enough to make the team (probably better than Simmonds/Clifford but I think Dubas wants a bonafide 4th liner instead of a minor upgrade in Pezzeta). Insanely high price to pay to not improve the team (arguably get worse by losing Robertson who has played this year), and our future gets worse

Allen has been considerably better than Mrazek this year, but the main point is to free up cap to snag a top 4 dman.

Allen has been better this year, but he hasn’t been good, which is the problem. He doesn’t solve the goalie problems at all, and tbh I’d be more willing to bank on Mrazek bouncing back than Allen (Mrazek over the last 3 years before this one has been a better goalie). I’m not paying an A prospect and a 2nd for the 2 mil in cap space we save

Just to add, IMO when the Leafs get all three goalies back.....Mrzarek is waived to Marlies, for playing time, and hope he finds his game. Leafs are really stuck with his cap this year and the next two. Leafs are just praying he becomes NHL capable at some time

If I’m the Leafs I’m banking on Campbell when he gets back, Allen would just be a cheap steadying presence in the meantime. Mrazek is %100 a cap dump at this point and I’m not sure, is Nick Robertson still an “A” prospect anymore? I may be wrong but I think the Leafs are ready to move on from him.

Robertson is still only 20 years old. He was one of the best OHL players (scoring at a historic rate) and despite his young age has shown he can play in the NHL. His goal scoring is top notch, but he’s also an insanely hard worker and is a good forechecker and in his own end. He’s one of our top 3 prospects and he at worst should become a very good 2nd liner, but I see 1st line out of him if he hits his ceiling

Hahahaha nobody wants Mrazek's contract. Period.

Paying ARZ a 1st to take him is TOR only way out.

It sucks that TML fans will do endless AGMs for another 2 years trying to tell people he is not an awfull goalie.

I’m sure he does become more NHL capable. It’s only been 17 or so games this year he’s played. He’s struggled a lot but he’s shown good flashes. I expect a rebound from him next year 110%, I mean he was a very good tandem goalie before this year (the sample size last year where he posted above a .920 save percentage is only about a few games less than what he’s played this year may I point out)

If I'm the Leafs, I'm banking on Campbell and Kallgren this season. Mrzarek, is waived to Marlies. Kallgren just might be the solution at net this year.

Okay fair argument, I’ve heard his recent injury history has really hurt his development but yeah I could see him being a solid 2nd liner at some point if he can stay healthy.

Would you call this a fair trade if the 2nd rounder was removed?

You’re putting a lot of hope in a goalie who has played 2 NHL games.

And even if Mrazek is sent to the minors, the majority of his contract still counts against the cap.

I’d be moreso saying it’s a fair trade if Robertson and Pezzeta are removed, tho the Leafs might have to add a bit more in depth picks. I don’t think it makes sense on any level to move top quality pieces for minor upgrades at all for the Leafs. If they’re moving these pieces it’s likely going to be for a major upgrade that probably has term

I like the cap space saving obtaining Allen, but I gotta think the Leafs go with their best goalies. Kallgren and Campbell this year. Kallgren....shades of 50 years ago, 1971...when Ken Dryden played who played six NHL regular games in his career, led the Habs to an upset win of the Stanley Cup. (well a Leaf fan can dream)

I’m actually a Habs fan, just thought I’d take a stab at seeing what kind of return the Habs could get for taking on his awful contract.

Hey there’s always a chance.
I’m a Habs fan but not a Leafs hater, but I just can’t see this team winning a cup with half their cap spent on 4 forwards. You can win a presidents trophy with an amazing top 6 but come playoff time you need a solid bottom 6 too.

Well you could get more than a small LW which MTL has plenty of.
