NYR - CHI Idea

Created by: EnglishFitzPercy
Team: 2021-22 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 19, 2022
Published: Mar. 19, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'd love to hear NYR and Chicago fans opinion on this.

Looks like Chicago is going full rebuild. While Debrincat should still be elite when the Hawks compete again, they will likely be bad for the next 3-4 years which are his prime years.

Two underachieving top prospects in NYR, but it's still so early and they are still full of potential. However adding a 40 goals scorer who plays RW would be massive for NYR in my opinion.

I honestly don't know what the correct value is, I just want to hear your thoughts. NYR would certainly prefer to trade Kakko while the Hawks would prefer Laf.

I think this is a no brainer for the Rangers.

CHI says no. NYR can’t afford to do this either. We need the cheap bridge deals with the cap

As a Hawks fan, I don't think that's enough of a return considering what they just got for Hagel. Saw an earlier tweet that the Hawks must be "wowed" to trade Debrincat and this doesn't "wow" me. Maybe take out the 2022 draft pick (heard that Davidson isn't interested in 2022 draft choices as he's revamping the scouting staff to get ready for 2023), and replace it with the Rangers 2023 and 2024 first rounders, plus maybe a second in either year and it's possible.

Do they though? You certainly know NY's situation better than I do, but looking at it I see that they have 67M committed next year with a fairly full roster (they'll need a 2C which could be Strome or someone else). Unless Laf absolutely breaks out next year, you have to think that he'll get a 2-3 years cheap bridge for his second contract.

That leaves them money for a competent backup. I could be missing something, but I feel like it works for NY for the next 2-4 years at least.

Saw that tweet as well and I also didn't feel like this was a wow offer, but I feel like there clearly is a deal to be made with these teams to jumpstart Chicago's rebuild and help the Rangers cup aspirations.

This isn't even close for Debrincat. Kakko is going to be a career 3rd liner. Debrincat costs more than kane

Not even close. Yes Kaapo has upside and shows flashes, but he has also had 3 years in the NHL with very little to show for it. I think NYR fans way over value guys like him and Laf. Gonna take a bunch more for the NYR's to pull off a Cat trade.

It can be done, it would just require some creativity. Gotta figure the 2m contract Kakko gets and the 5-6m contract that Strome gets, pay for DeBrincat.
Rangers could then go after Jack McBain with a 2nd round pick, then you have your ELC cost controlled center for 2 years.

Ya, I’m sure Lundkvist needs to be added to this deal in order to make it happen. I’d like to see them get Mcbain too. Honestly don’t think Strome is here next season regardless.

His current deal expires in two years and likely gonna have to pay 10M for him

I dont think Strome comes back either. He hasnt really instilled much confidence for the long haul after the Rangers came back from the break. Hes been very pedestrian, granted, its been a revolving door of 4th liners and AHLers playing with Strome and Panarin.

However, if we could coax McBain to come here it saves us like 5m in cap space that we would have used on Strome to sign someone else, like Rakell. However, my fear with McBain is if he doesnt get what he wants, he will sit or walk. Guys who make demands like he does make me apprehensive about their loyalty to an organization.

In 2 years, we trade Trouba, get back 8m, hopefully the cap takes a small bumps, and boom, you got your money to resign him.
