Looking at Yandle's buyout, why is over $5 million on the cap hit next season ? Who decides these buyout cap hits. $2, $5, $1, $1....Does the team or League decide how and when it's split up.

Now we see why the Panthers are all in this season. Next season they'll have over $6 million of dead cap space.

It depends on how the contract is built. Contracts like Carey Price's with lots of bonuses and low base salary are more expensive buyouts because the bonuses have to be paid entirely. Yandle didn't have a bonus this year, but was supposed to have one next season so it decreaes the buyout savings.
