It is kind of mystifying that he apparently feels there’s too much depth. But this is just what I’ve been told: He sees a packed depth chart with Ryan Hartman on the top line, Eriksson Ek on the GREEF Line (conceivably, what he feels is his future role), Freddy Gaudreau between Fiala and Boldy, now Jost in the fold and Marco Rossi coming. If he doesn’t want to compete for a spot and instead wants to be anointed, maybe getting an asset for him is the best thing anyway. The reality, though, is that these are his rights, collectively bargained, and you can’t blame him from wanting to pick what he feels is the best spot.
