I would say that Buffalo wins because Hagg was not that effective in Philly and was somewhat overplayed by Vigneault, BUT that Florida group always finds talent somewhere that no one expects it. I'll put it in as fair. It's a super-cheap price, and maybe they know something that most people don't.

Solid depth pick up while Ekblad is out.

Great for four sides -- now we don't have to see those Hagg-to-Anaheim-or-Los-Angeles-for-a-fourth trades on CapFriendly.

Haven't look at analytics, but based on eye test, Hagg was not as bad as the salt brigades of Philly make him out to be. He was steady for us, laid some big hits, but nothing flashy. Definitely a 5-7 Dman, but if he's your 7th, that's pretty reassuring.

We weren't going to re-sign him anyway, and without retention the price is fair, so I'm all about it. Gimme those draft picks.

Pretty fair. Hagg is not very good but hes probably their 7th best D man for the regular season and will be the 8th best in the playoffs when Ekblad is back

His analytics arent good, but like you said hes probably a healthy scratch as the 7th D so its fine

Florida literally buying every asset they can get. They really wanna go for it this season, as they should. If they make it past the first round, their my favorites for the cup

This is a brief list of depth defensemen that were traded for 6th round picks recently.

Jordie Benn
Chris Wideman
Nathan Beaulieu
Michael Del Zotto

Robert Hagg falls in this category.

Fair deal

This trade is perfect demonstration of how weak the Buffalo defense has been all year.
For most of the year, he WAS Buffalo top PK and shut down LHD.
I agree he passed my eye test nearly every night.
BTW, IMO analytics get skewed by the strength of the team mates.

EDIT:
While he was not the top PK defenseman the four year he played for the Flyers, he did have significant PK ice time, and no defense man had more hits than he.
HIs ice time was a bit more sheltered in Philadelphia but in Buffalo he had the lowest percentage of OZ starts of any d-man.
There must not have been any interest from other teams.

The chart is from my website http://udh-playercards.herokuapp.com/?player=ROBERT+HAGG&view=WAR+Plot+View

I just recently made it so it doesnt have QoT or QoC yet, and I agree many stats are skewed by quality of teammates but for what its worth his main D partner Pysyk has better WAR/60 numbers than him with similar PK deployment and slightly more TOI/GP

I am not a fan of rentals, the team paying for them usually loses the deal..but this is a homerun for Florida- a depth dman for a late 6th? absolute steal.

This is what drives me nuts about analytics. 6 guys on the ice determine the numbers. 1 player on the ice shows effort, skill, and performance.

I said Florida wins only because they're getting an actual player. 6th rounders aren't notoriously considered NHLers unless they're picked by Buffalo and named Brandon Hagel...

Which, also, man it is going to hurt if FLA doesn’t win it all this year.

@BuFfaLOFaN
I give up.
Dermott does not PK, hit, block shots, plays bottom minutes, has a 56% OZ start and the Leafs get a third.
Hägg PK, hit, blocks shots, has a 37.3% OZ start and the Sabres get a 6th.
I am deeply disappointed.

.....Dermott <<< Hägg
PK.....00:27.........02:23
TOI...14:43..........17:01
Hits.......43...............97
Blocks..28...............91
OZ%..53.1............37.3
go/pts 1/5..............1/8
How is the player on the left worth a 3rd and the one on the right a 6th.
