Surgical Fix Keep Dermott

Description
Holl is serviceable #4/5 defenceman that's not as bad as Leaf fans make him out to be. He's plays 20+ min on the Leafs in a defensive role and had good stats. The Leafs have too many #4/5 defenceman and not enough toughness. Holl should be an upgrade for MIN bottom pairing and could play a bigger role next year when they're cap squeezed. McBain's rights expire in AUG 22 (CapFriendly), he becomes a UFA if not signed to a contract, his value is entirely dependant on him agreeing to sign with acquiring team.

Kerfoot is having a career year ( 59 pt pace) and has some offensive upside, problem is that he just doesn't fit with Tavares and doesn't have toughness. It's time to try someone else, Pearson has more size and can play in the top 6.

I put Pittsburgh but it can really be any team rumoured to have inquired on Mikheyev, someone will overpay for him. Take the cap and assets and use it elsewhere. Kase when healthy can play on the checking line just fine.

Domi is backup in case Pearson doesn't fit with Tavares.
Alternatively is to pickup Galchenyuk for cheap and use the cap on a bottom six bruiser.

Leafs are missing a true top defenceman. Rielly is a #1/2 Brodie is #3 everybody else is #4 or lower. Muzzin has slipped from a #3 to #4 or worse. Sandin and Liljegren aren't ready for top 4 yet and lack strength. Leafs need to spend whatever it takes on Severson.

Nope Minnesota declines. Justin holl is a Cap dump and we aren't paying anything to take on his contract. It's okay leafs fans to trade him elsewhere, and not to wild because he's from Minnesota

Wild decline. That 2nd round pick should be going the other way for starters

Based on Jarnkrok's return, and number of teams interested in Mikheyev, he has size, strength, and very speedy and can totally dominate but has stone hands and soft. I think he could be really useful on a team like Pens or Oilers. Leafs ideally keep him but it's about taking cap and assets to plug other bigger holes.

Yeah, was going to say the Wild are looking for a 2nd for McBain so in what world is Holl worth 2 2nds. Kokkonen surely doesn't make up the value, the Wild have a bunch of LD prospects so not exactly a position of need.

Holl is better than Kulikov and possibly Merrill. His possession stats are pretty decent and the Leafs are playing Holl 20+ min a night against opposing teams best players, he's more than capable in a bottom 6 sheltered role.

Based on price of defenceman at this time of the year and Holl being a #4/5 defenceman that makes 2M. Could always send Abruzzese (also played in Olympics) back the other way but I don't think it's needed.

The price of defensemen is based entirely on the needs of the team acquiring the player and the Wild don't need Holl bad enough to give up McBain and a 2nd to acquire him. Holl would play on the 3rd pair behind Spurgeon and Dumba, so how he compares to players who can play the left side is irrelevant. Holl also doesn't help their cap situation next season when Parise and Suter's buyouts go up quite a bit.
