Sprong wasn't given a real opportunity under Laviolette, so Johansson will probably be more valuable to Caps right now. (And one gotta love the 2010s nostalgia) From a Caps perspective, I'm fine with the trade, but I voted Seattle because I think Sprong will fare well there.

Every time Sprong gets traded the player going the other way has always either been a Swede, a defensemen, or named Marcus.

So, guess I have to see something positive in this. At least it wasn't McMichael... Confused

Love the overreaction to this trade

Basically was Sprong for Mojo. Mojo = Sprong capitals gave up late picks that wont help them during this cup window for salary retained and a player that they trust more than Sprong. OMG THEY TRADE A 4th and 6th HUGE W FOR SEATTLE... like chill wtf cares about late picks.. capitals added a vet. Capitals likely dont sign Sprong next year with Snively being healthy and AJF and Lappy coming up.

i watched Sens give up a 3rd for Hamonic
Preds trade 2nd for Lauzon
Hagel get2x 1st + 2 prospects
McBain get a 2nd

im just trilled thats all the Capitals gave up for a lateral move for a Vet smile

If you consider the trade as the 4th or 6th being for salary retention and Sprong + the other pick for MoJo. I think the defensive upgrade for the Caps bottom 6 forwards is worth the price

MoJo isn’t a defensive upgrade on any of the bottom 6, he randomly disappears (I don’t remember the Marcus Johansson disappearing act fondly), and he forgets how to score or try in the playoffs when he becomes needed. Not only that, but he’s on the wrong side of 30, Sprong was cost controlled, and although Sprong was a liability on defense at times, he’s a better finisher and a far younger player. Giving up picks as well makes this a bad trade by MacLellan. I stuck by him after the Mantha trade, which I actually liked a lot, but this is something else.

Alright, now just Riley Sheahan and Max McCormick to deal and all the UFAs are gone.

Of course (assuming they’re traded for picks (which seems like a good bet at this point), that would leave just 14 forwards under contract (plus Tanev on IR).

Let the Ron Francis comeback tour begin.

3rd should've been enough. I like sprong short term and long term better than MOJO. All around caps L.

Can't figure out how Mojo costs so much. 1 for 1 swap is pushing it when talking about these two players. I guess with the retention throw in a 6th? Can we get our 4th back please?

How did Washington not learn there lesson last year...

Could have had Namestnikov for a 4th

Sprong is having fun in Seattle meanwhile Johansson just looks like a waste

Mojo has been invisible. Sprong wasn’t a fit in Washington but I wish we could’ve traded him for someone else. Namestnikov would have been great.
