Fair deal, Smith looks decent and you'd assume he sign, Little's an LTIR contract

Nathan Smith will likely be a bottom 6 forward, not a bad trade for Arizona.

I completely understand the benefit from Arizona (Houston) doing these types of moves but eventually you gotta grow out of this stage

WPG wins. They gather a 4th for a LTIR bound asset and a prospect that wasn't going to sign with them

Arizona did this in order to reach the salary floor next season, right?

Tough call. I always tend to vote for the team that gets the player. So in this case Arizona. But that's a lot of cap space to free yourself of for the next few years!

Getting out of LTIR is massive for the Jets for the next 2 years

Fair deal. Gives us some flexibility long term and we get a pick. Unfortunate that Smith wouldn't sign but it is what it is, and we did fine considering that.

What's with Arizona trading for the rights of college players? They're making it way too easy to make jokes about the players not being ready to leave college.

There is ALOT of salary coming off the books next year so that certainly helps but Smith seems like a high level prospect. Having said that they're not gonna have any problem reaching the cap floor like people like to think. GMBA is the goat

For those who think the Little is similar to Weber's situation, no. Little's real money attached is about the same as his cap hit where Weber is around 25%.
I like the deal for the Yotes, getting a matured prospect for a dump and magic beans.

Little doesnt have much value for the Jets, but it allows Arizona to put him on IR and have him count against the cap while insurance pays the bulk of his salary, just like they did when they got Boychuk.
Jets win.

Little's contract was probably insured so it means that the Yotes won't pay much or any of it anyways

LTIR is paid by the insurance company not the team.

I know its unrealistic but I really hope somehow Ladd/ Little get healthy next year and play on the same line next year. Hopefully have one last good year before they retire.

Haha wow I kid you not I was envisioning this EXACT move in the Interactive "Be a GM" mode. Coyotes get the $5.3 cap hit but only spending $4.75 and then $3.75 the next 2 years.

Arizona taking every dead weight contract where the dollars are lower than the AAV that they can get!

They should trade for Weber next if he is, in fact, done.

I would assume Little's contract is being paid by an insurance company (at least partially).

Probably why Arizona made the trade ... They get a nice cap-hit without having to pay.
