It's only 6.25 Million for a #2 defensemen. It won't be that hard to make cap work in the offseason.
Who's turning 35. That contract is very risky. Also number two my ass, he goes in second pair at his current form.
I can't say that I'm absolutely sure that no one will pay for him after this deadline, but I certainly wouldn't. And I don't see how that could happen cap wise with frankly any team there is.

In his current form right now with St.Louis? he's our #1 and doing a decent job at it. He's a #2 all day as long as your coach isn't an idiot like Ducharme.
I mean Giordano won a Norris at 37, so 35 isn't that old for a defender. He hasn't shown any signs of regression (speed or injuries) so I don't think that's started yet. 6.25 Million is nothing during FA. Obvious Habs will take back salary if need be.

Since it seems like DAL is interested in the guy, I made a post where Petry heads to DAL next offseason in exchange to Faksa, Khudobin, Dellandrea and a 2nd.
That's an absolute max I see him going.
But Hughes has proved me wrong number of times this deadline so who knows.
In my opinion paying him any more than that is an absolute trash idea.

I'm absolutely good with a deal like that. Ty Dellandrea would be a really good get and I think Faksa is still a half decent player.
I remember when in 2020 when McDavid and Sam Gagner and Chiasson as his wingers and know he as Hyman and Kane as his wingers, you can't argue that Holland hasn't upgraded the Oilers forward core
