3rd line center at best. Don't think this one is going to age well.

Too much, too long.

Unless KK breaks out into a top 6 two-way guy this is not gonna look great.

4C for now but only 21 years old.

Overthinking it. Maybe if Bergevin was still GM.

Better than his current cap hit, but this all relies on his development curve. He hasn't really progressed much with the Canes so I'd hope he has a breakout season within the next two years if I was Carolina.

Carolina's trying to save their face after that whole mess of an offersheet. KK didn't play like he deserved the length, the money and certainly not a 10 team NTC but he had them by the balls with his 6M$ qualifying offer. Oh and it's backloaded making it basically buyout and trade away proof.
Dundon should certainly consider this whole mess when going to the table for his next contract negotiation.

As per puckmedia that's the money rollout:
Yr 1 4M
Yr 2 4.5M
Yr 3 4.82M
Yr 4 4.82M
Yr 5 4.82M
Yr 6 5.2M
Yr 7 5.2M
Yr 8 5.2M

All salary, 10 team No Trade List in UFA Years

Hard to know how this will go, but all things considered, it's not a back breaker if they're wrong. The contract expires before he turns 30 and essentially has him locked through what would be his prime.

He's about to cross the 250 games threshold so you'd think there'd be a strong sense for "who he is". Having said that, he's averaged less than 14 minutes a game throughout his career, if he's really a top 6 guy, you aren't gonna know it if he's buried on the depth chart.

I think there are enough positive factors here to say this is a ok signing, but there's a ton of unknowns which makes it hard to assess.

Obvious gamble...if JK can (finally) live up to his potential, it is a steal among steals.

If he doesn't? Well, at least CAR got to LoL tRoLl MoNtReAl I guess...

Exactly. There is a good chance this turns out poorly and we all are just left wondering why CAR kept doubling down for the sake of MTL offer-sheeting Aho into a very team-friendly deal?

Also, something I've wondered with this whole situation...an offer sheet only works if the player *chooses* to sign it...right? Like, Aho is just as much "at fault" for that whole situation as MTL was, really.

This deal looks like it sucks right now, but as KK grows more, in his prime this deal could be a steal. So really this deal for 8 years isn't as bad as it looks considering the fact that KK is only 21 and can grow beyond that 4.82 mil value in his prime. The potential is there, but it just looks foolish with the way Kotkaniemi has been playing recently. This deal might turn out to not age well, but it's a risky move that could end up good if Kotkaniemi can get some motivation of this signing.

finally. the highest paid 4th liner in
hockey is signed! (its a fact for this year). joking aside, he will have all the oppurtunity to show his qorth next year as 2c. it might turn out as one of the biggest steal of a contract

This one is gonna turn out great for Carolina. He's playing 4th line now but he maybe the 2nd center as early as next season. He won't even be 30 when this deal ends.

This contract is gonna be a steal pretty soon. Habs fans laughing at paying a 4th liner over 4 mil, but its not any better to pay close to 7 mil for Byron and Armia. At least Kotkaniemi still has potential to grow into this deal.
