Well That Was Uneventful

Created by: mikeyscav
Team: 2021-22 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 21, 2022
Published: Mar. 21, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Once Hayden clears Covid-IR… not sure who gets sent down.

Plus with expectation Power, Levi, and Johnson signing after their NCAA seasons are over not sure how that would look either

Mentioned only one more AHL recall allowed (not including emergency recalls) so won’t see one of UPL or Quinn in the nhl again… idk it’s weird

My guess is butcher gets waived for power and Fitzgerald goes to ahl for Johnson assuming that's how you get him to sign

Shocked they didn't make a move. Maybe Miller is extending, if Braun got a third I'd of thought Miller would at least get the same.

Adam’s said him just playing 2 games since returning from injury wasn’t enough for teams who were inquiring… injury scared them off

On-ice value vs cap hit wasn't there for buyers. Even with 50% retention. Cheaper options were available. So no offers.

The Sabres do not have many options at RHD.
Unlikely that any UFA RHD other than Miller or Pysyk would sign with the Sabres, so maybe management will resign them.
Similar with RW, Tuch, Okposo are signed with one really good prospect Quinn and one likely NHL player Peterka, so it would make sense to sign Hinostroza.
Considering Vinnie has a good relationship with Granato and has played really wel, he may also sign with the Sabres.
I see no reason to resign Butcher or Eakin.
On the other hand Anderson may want to mentor Luukkonen, he is certainly respected by all of his team mates.
Who knows. We do not know how Pegula will mess with the team.

I was deeply disappointed with the TDL.

How does Dermott rate a third and Hagg only a sixth.
Why accept only a 6th for Hagg 24 hours before the end of the TDL?

I think Dermott being signed through next year and slightly younger makes sense. Idk a 6th is fine.

I think Vinnie could be fine to re-sign, but that really locks up any room to improve. Including Miller and Pysyk in this, idk I want to upgrade the team and not run it back.

We got trade capital and salary cap to overpay a guy like Braun as well which I think could fit a RD role a little better than Miller. But, I think we should be making our damage in trade and only bringing back Pysyk and maybe Hinostroza

A comparison of their stats would indicate Dermott's defensive value approaches useless category.
He played sheltered minutes, on a team that averaged nearly a goal a game more than Buffalo yet has 3 fewer pts than Hagg.
He does not hit, block shots nor PK.
Hagg is only 21 months older than Dermott and is the correct side of 30
My point why make the trade so early before the end of the TDL and if Dermott age and extra year warrants a third, Hagg is worth MUCH more than a 6th.
Having Dermott's salary for an extra year is worse.
Let me add, trading him for a 6th was an insult considering his role as the shut down defenseman and #1 LHD PK.

...only bringing back Pysyk and maybe Hinostroza OK, no problem, do not tie up roster spots with veterans.
You are correct, it may be necessary to over pay a several players to reach the floor.
Just consider, Buffalo needs much better GK, to be a play off team

Yeah idk, I get your point on Hagg that maybe he should’ve gotten a bit more. I guess I just don’t feel as strongly.

But yeah, GK and a RHD may be the biggest needs for this team. With Francouz and Forsberg signing with their teams, I think that’ll have to be a trade now
