This is larceny by the Jets. Copp is an incredibly overrated player. Power to the Jets for getting this value though.

Funny thing about picks is you have to hit on them to make the deal a good one. I would say chances are low they hit on one let alone both. So, I think its a fair deal. Depending on Copp plays I can see the Rangers resigning him. He can play center and we know the they will be busy in the offseason trying to land the bigger fish so who knows who will go then.

Maybe I'm undervaluing Copp, but this seems like a very big haul for him. I voted fair deal, but I think Jets win this trade short and long term.

Considering its unlikely that NYR makes the conference finals, it's basically just 2 2nds (+Barron) for Copp, which is pretty fair. He's a low end 2C/high end 3C, really good defensively, and sneaky solid on the offensive side. Both sides should be happy with this.

Love this move. Copp is major upgrade over Chytil at 3C. Physical, two-way, better offensively, etc.

Hope to see something around 4x4 for an extension to keep him with Goodrow on that third line. Drury doing well.

NYR filled a hole: 3C, I like the addition. Barron can turn into a good bottom 6 center, and 2 2nds is fair value.
Both teams come out happy

Looking good! The value seems to be fair on both sides, everybody gets what they want.

My biggest question: Does Copp end up re-signing in New York after this season?

That was my first thought when seeing the return. It's quite a lot for a guy like Copp, so I'm wondering if NYR tries to re-sign him instead of Strome.

Some players that are similar or better compared to Copp have been traded for less before.

The conditions on both of the second round picks seem to favour the Jets.

And Copp is almost certainly a rental for the Rangers.

Jets win.

Just curious, which players were you thinking of as comps?

Copp has 11 points in his first 10 games as a NYR, pushed players like hunt/goodrow down to their correct roles, won over 50% of the faceoffs he's taken, is at 3.6 points per 60, and been positive in rel corsi %. Are you sure he's overrated? To me he's exactly what NYR have needed.

It's been a good 10 games. I'm not afraid to admit I'm wrong if it continues. But I'd check back at the end of the playoffs.

since one of the seconds became a first the jets win but if the Rangers re-sign Copp it is a win win deal (unless the jets get a steal with that first)

Copp has been the best player moved at the deadline (with the possible exception of Giroux). This is a win for the rangers (but in general it's a win-win).
