Chicago 2017/18

Created by: OttChi
Team: 2017-18 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 23, 2017
Published: Apr. 23, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
By making these trades the Hawks now have a very good team with a solid d corps, good goaltending and a pretty good offence. We moved all bad contracts and brought in players with less term, better numbers and who can still produce at a high level.

Forwards: I have added some big wingers that bring size and physicality, but can also produce. There is more depth and we are less top end heavy. JVR is a big winger that goes to the net, downgrade offensively from Panarin but we make up for that offence with other acquisitions, will create more space for Kane. Oshie is big, can score, and can be physical...this addition along with Kane will allow us never to lose in the shootout again....lol. Jenner is a fast, young, physical winger that is also dangerous offensively. Rider is a young winger with good upside and a good contract, started to find his groove in Arizona. last year. Lastly Ott is a pest, but also said to be good in the room, good addition.

Defence: This d corps is deeper and the addition of Shattenkirk will improve PP, Harmonic is a solid young NHL D and Polak is a veteran that plays really tough and can shut down top guys and we were missing his physicality in the playoffs.

Goaltending: I really like what I've seen with Darling and now he will get more starts, if he can prove himself he will get a big contact in the future. I added Miller because Bishop gets hurt regular and after him IMO Miller is the best goalie available. He is a good goalie and posted good numbers on a VERY bad Vancouver team. He had over 1700 S.A.in only 54 games played and still had a .914 SVP. which was still better than Lundqvists' stats. This being said, with this D core around him I'd expect him to raise his numbers closer to around a .920 SVP putting him in the top-end in goaltending statistics

This being said, the acquisitions came at a big blow to our prospect pool. We did manage to get back a 3rd and a 6th in the draft this year, but we don't pick in round 1,2 and 4... We also lost quality youngsters like DeBrincat, Motte and Forsling. Realistically though, those players I wouldn't consider franchise building blocks like some of the pieces we have on the team now, now is the time to win and by making these trades this instantly should vault us right back up to the top of the league and set us up for along playoff run.

Trading DeBrincat is stupid. He could be a star.

I get why you'd like to construct a team like this, but almost none of these deals are realistic imo.

Oshie isn't going to sign for only $5m - if Ladd, who is older and not as good and has a lot more wear and tear, can sign for $5.5m a year ago, then Oshie should at least get that if not more. Shattenkirk is at least going to be paid as much as Yandle ($6.3m) but he'll probably look to get more than that. Is he only interested in NY, as well? Polak isn't worth that money, either.

Hossa probably isn't going to waive his NMC for Arizona and the recapture penalties if he were to retire while playing for a **** team is too high a risk for the Hawks. Islanders probably wouldn't move a top 4 d-man for a goalie when they have Greiss, who is not as good as Crow but is good enough. If the Islanders went for a high salary goalie, they'd likely want the trade partner to take Halak back as well. In no way is Rozsival going to return a 4th round pick either or any pick, really - if they wanted to get ride of his cap, they'd bury him in the minors.

Agree with your rebuttal, Lly. I'm glad Bowman is pissed after this disastrous showing/no show really! However, is he actually capable of turning things around given his body if work these last 7-8 years? He's a general maintainer. When he does make a big trade (Leddy, Saad, Sharp come to mind), he is fleeced by the other GM; the one who is a general manger. I wonder who actually calls the shots, tho. The past two TDLs, 1sts and prospects were moved with mixed results. With the draft at the UC this June, it seemed highly unlikely they would trade their top pick. Yet, WHY? Had Chicago gone hard after Boyle or Hanzal (yes, I know Toronta is down 3-2 and the Wild are done), could that have made a difference similar to Vermette in '15? I think it would have. Remember, they did finish first in the WC and many analysts picked them to go the the SCF. The organIZation is still playing the PR game, tho. I liked it better when it was them against the league.
