We just got a Roster Player, 2nd, 7th round pick for a bottom pairing defender. What a trade.

Like this for Edmonton. Oilers get a Bottom 4 Defensive dman for a pick that will likely be late and a 7th Dman.

The condition on the 2nd makes it even better - even if slightly and unlikely activated - WTF

For those that believed Edmonton couldn't trade their 2022 second because of the Duncan Keith trade ...

Or that no team can trade a conditional draft pick until after the playoffs or until the "conditions are finalized" ...

You were flat out wrong.

This trade proves it.

And yes, the Oilers got fleeced here.

William Lagesson has the potential to be better than Brett Kulak.
Probably because he's already better then Brett Kulak right now.

Kulak is a perfect bottom pairing defenseman, but those shouldn't cost 2nd round picks. He's solid though.

Habs fleece, Kulak’s a good 3rd pair guy but we’re getting a 2nd, young depth D and a 7th back

If Edmonton reaches the cup final, they have to send their 2022 2nd to Chicago (a condition on the Duncan Keith trade). Therefore, they would need to send the 2023 one instead.

Habs are basically trading for Edmonton's next available 2nd round pick
