Ducks have all the cap space they need, easy win to get a 2nd round pick as well as a useful player.

Verbeek has really done amazingly so far, good to see him thriving in Anaheim

In a vacuum for Vegas, the Golden Knights give up ...

Nick Holden
2nd round pick
3rd round pick

for

John Moore
Ryan Kesler's spot on LTIR

How to explain this to your fanbase??

Anaheim wins this and it's not even close.

5M x 2 years of Dadonov (10M)
2.75M x 2 years of Moore (5.5M)
6.875M x 1 year of Kesler (6.875M)
and elite second round pick (0M)
22.375M of wasted cap in one trade damn

I'm confused. Why would VGK possibly throw away a somewhat useful player when they're in a wildcard battle? I assume that it's a cap dump, but the only possible justification for this is if enough players were coming off LTIR that they couldn't keep Dadonov until the end of the season. Anyway, given that VGK lost a useful player at a critical time, and paid more (by taking on Moore) than we did to dump Tyler Johnson at the same AAV with an extra year on his contract at a far less critical time, they definitely messed up.

I like this trade. We put him on line with Z and retain half his contract next year. Money prints itself. Burrrrrr *money machine

What were the Golden Knights thinking with this move this summer? They didn't need a winger at all, extremely didn't need his cap hit, and they gave up a 3rd and a good defenseman for it. Now they give up a 2nd to get rid of him.

Hi, welcome to the Vegas Golden Knights, why dont you head outside see the sights, get a feel of the city. Don't worry about unpacking, you probably won't be here long enough.

The start of the curse of MAF...

VGK did him wrong so the hockey gods are messing with them.

Kesler's career stat line is great, 1001 games played and 101 playoff games.

Face value Anaheim won hands down, but the implications are that stone can come back and help them to the playoffs with Paci and Eichel, this might end up being a better trade than we see right now.

Cap dump for Vegas so they can bring back one of the players they have on LTIR before the end of the regular season. I’m sure this was part of the plan when they traded for Eichel. Presumably whoever it is they’re bringing back from LTIR is better than Dadonov, so it’s a bit like trading a 2nd for a rental, except that the rental is somebody they already have but couldn’t activate without this trade. They don’t want to wait until the playoffs to get him off LTIR because it’s no longer a given that they’ll make the playoffs if they don’t ice their best lineup.

Dadonov was better in Vegas than he was in Ottawa, but still not as good as he was in Florida. Still a useful NHL player though, and the cap hit won’t hurt Anaheim, so very little risk for them to take him on.

I don’t know how the hot potato John Moore fits into this. He’s going to cut into that cap space that Vegas just freed up, so unless they think he’s an upgrade over one of their existing NHL defensemen, I don’t know why he was included. Anaheim has lots of cap space and you’d think they would have been able to get more if they’d kept him.

It's purely to use LTIR space to bring back players currently on LTIR. That's why.

He's talking about the move last off-season when Las Vegas unaccountably acquired Dadonov in the first place.
