What?

Trocheck cannot play on the wing, Kotkaniemi isn't 2C ready, Domi wasn't acquired to play 4C minutes, Martinook is not playing over Lorentz, fast isn't coming off the Staal-Nino line. why break up the Slavin-Deangelo pairing, or the Skjei-Pesce pairing?

Agree with all, but this. Rod loves Martinook way too much to remove him for a relatively young player like Lorentz

Lorentz is big but reluctant to use his size, at least in comparison to Marty. Marty has 61 hits on the season to Lorentz's 58 and that's with 14 less games this season

It's also not the playoffs yet. Lorentz doesn't get top six minutes like Martinook does either.

I’m not saying this is what it is but this is what I’d go with
Keep in mind I’m not a canes fan
I like the 3rd line to be a playoff shutdown line that’s why it’s like that
I think Kks playoff driving would be super useful in the playoffs as a scoring line
I put martiniok for the physicality

Lorentz is more intimidating and has WAY better scoring upside.
Carolina's current 3rd line is one of the best shutdown lines in the league and is playoff tried and tested. Plus Trocheck is a defensive turnstile. Put Fast back there, who's just solid up and down the ice.
Kotkaniemi's play driving skill is vital, it's one of the reasons Carolina can run 4 scoring lines. He needs to be sheltered because he's not been developed properly. Carolina are trying to develop him with him on the roster and it's a difficult mix. Leave him down on the 4th line to control the play and run 4 dominant lines.
Also, don't put the guy you just got to bolster the top 9 on the 4th line.
Away liked this.

Okay, let's look at last year's playoff numbers then. Martinook had 15.04 Hits/60 (39 total) and Lorentz had 10.40 Hits/60 (23 total)

And Martinook only has 5 seconds more TOI/GP than Lorentz so that's not as big of a factor as you think it is

Lorentz was a rookie. And 5 seconds a game over 60 games is an extra 2 minutes of ice time.

Also, hits aren't the only measure of physicality. Lorentz is a good possession player, and often can't lay the body because he's in possession, but Lorentz is often used as a screen or in board battles. Furthermore, Martinook is still used in the top 6. For a 4th line grinder role, the 6'4 220 lbs kid is going to be the better option.
