Description
RNH is a good comparable for Burakovsky. He was the same age - RNH has a higher PPG throughout his carreer but Bura is having a similar contract year to RNH when he signed at 5.125M AAV.

We sign Letang to a big 1 year deal - and leaves us room to sign Bunting, Jeanno the following off-season and let Topi Neimela step in the year after.

I always find these posts "strange". So the Leafs are able to trade one year of 3.5m Kerfoot for a second and sixth, but somehow get supposedly get a quality 3C in UFA Merkely at 900,000. Doesn't sound very practical at all.
But give you credit, you did make a cap compliant 22 man roster.

I don't trust the forwards or goalies, we're losing so much I don't think it would even be worth it

Its not a matter of comparing one player to the next, especially in terms of $. Its about placing the 3.5M in an area more important than 3C imo.

Blackwell and Husso will likely fetch more than that.
Putting your trust in an old Letang at 8mil is crazy- not that I see him leaving pittsburgh or signing a 1 yr deal.
and that defense is as small and soft as it gets.

I don't think you have seen Letang, Subban, and Ilya play - none of them are soft.

Ilya isnt soft- but hes barely an NHL dman, ideally a 7th. Letang is too injury prone to play real physical. Subban hits hard- but isnt nearly the same player he was with Montreal- or even nashville his first year. and outside of Ilya- all are 6ft or smaller.

Kampf is the leafs 3c, Kerfoot proved last season he can't fill a shutdown role.

I mean does it matter if that role is 3C or 4C? It's the same role?
