This would be smart... Supposedly the asking price for taking Dadonov is a 1st, so the team could use its extra cap, scratch him in the playoffs (since players traded after deadline can't play seemingly), then 1/2 retain him for the last year and trade him for a late pick at the draft. Then they can trade the 2023 VGK 1st for another rental at the next deadline to continue trying to win the cup. Genius or stupid?

Since we're past the trade deadline, he can't play regular season or playoff games to whoever he's traded to, right?

Back to the Sens...for a 2nd Rd pick...than the Sens trade him again next year for another 2nd Rd pick.

    Genius.

If VGK sucks again next season just keep the 1st and take advantage of a stacked class. You'll need that high-production low contract value ELC to keep the window open as long as possible.

According to CapFriendly, Florida only has enough room to take on a $4.1M contract. Dadonov's contract wouldn't fit this year.

there are also 23 people on the roster, send Mamin down (975k) and you can take in dadonov

The NHL/NHLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) includes a rule that any player on an NHL roster at the time of the trade deadline must remain with the NHL club for the remainder of the season (with a couple of minor exceptions). so no waivers

With that said, a trade only effects playoff rosters. Dadanov could still play in the regular season. Any player traded after the deadline is not eligible to play on a team’s playoff roster

You can't. He wasn't on the AHL roster on deadline day, so he can't be sent down to the minors for the rest of the season. The only player eligible to be returned to the AHL currently on the roster is Spencer Knight. I suppose Florida could send him down so they could fit Dadonov under the cap.

Ottawa can't be on his no-trade list. The last time he filed one was on June 30, 2021, and he was still on the Senators on that day.

Or we could "LTIR" one of our players... nod very legitimate!
