You dont get why Melynk a owner of a team spending 20ish million in actual dollars below the cap doesnt want to spend 5 million for a player to not play for him?

Ya thats not haw it works.

White is owed 15.75 million after this season. His buyout is 5.25 million which means you only have 10.5 million over 3 years to replace him. So 3.5 million cap hit.

Can the the Otttawa Senators (reminder one of the LEAST desirable) teams to play for find a material improvement on white for 3.5. Probably not.
