What would the first overall be worth to CBJ

Created by: Kyle_Davidson

Description
On the off chance that Chicago wins the first overall pick lottery (and therefore give CBJ their first in 2023) do you think CBJ would be interested in trading for this draft choice.

I don’t think this is as simple as keeping the unprotected first in 2023, there’s no guarantee for the BlueJackets that the hawks will suck so badly that they are guaranteed a high pick in a deeper draft.

  1. 2022 1st round pick (CBJ)
Additional Details:
Blue Jackets trade pick number 13 in 2022 and Chicagos first in 2023 for Chicagos first in 2022 which was retained based on the conditions of the Seth Jones trade. They draft Shane Wright.

I’d rather have Chicago's first in 2023 than 1st OA this year. I have a feeling Wright is going to be a bust and Michkov and Bredard will be much better.

Sadly I also thing Chicago is worse next season than they were this season.

You're suggesting we win the lotto, trade Wright to CBJ for our 2023 1st+?

We'll see what the hawks do this offseason but we are still pretty far from the worst team in the league imo. Arizona's roster and Chicago's roster just aern't even comparable right now still

Because of the lottery system, it would be pretty difficult to trade the 1st overall in exchange for somewhere around the 6th overall next year. The 2022 draft is not deep and while there is a great talent still in top 10 picks, nobody is head and shoulders above the rest. In the 2023 there is a couple elite level players but picking around #6 is probably close to the 1st overall in 2022.

I see no reason to do this for Columbus. Would likely cost our first this year, next year and maybe a sweetener on top of that to move up about 10 spots this year. I would much rather get the blackhawks pick next year in a much deeper draft with what should be a worse Chicago team next year. I will take my chances on the lottery next year vs giving up assets for the pick this year.

Sure they would be interested but what the price would be will make the difference whether they do it or not. Let's say they get 8th OA with their own pick and trade that to you, I don't think they would add much more than prospect like Ceulemans and a roster player like Bemstrom or Tarasov

Basically we are moving back 12spots AND getting our first next year.

Interesting. It'd be such a make or break move for Davidson as hawks gm. I don't think he'd ever do it. Depending on the ask, I think it'd be a no brainer for Buffalo
