Horvat Offseason trade

Created by: Richard88
Team: 2022-23 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 24, 2022
Published: Mar. 24, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Colorado came close to trading for Horvat before moving Barrie for Kadri. I'd guess that there's probably still interest in him to fill the 2C spot, and the Avs do often get their guys even if they have to wait a while.

There were reports this season of the team being divided, with half the team behind Miller and the other half behind Horvat. With both UFA's in 2023 it seems like they'll have to make a decision on who to extend. Miller seems like the better player and fit so seems more natural that they'd choose him.

Avs would look to extend Horvat. MacKinnon's extension will most likely be in place on the first day that it can be done this off-season which would give Sakic cost certainty to extend Horvat immediately.

Well seeing as how you traded both Helleson and Barron, I don’t see what assets you could possibly give to Vancouver. Byram and Newhook I assume are untouchable so it’s just unrealistic that you’d get our captain. A late first and a meh prospect will definitely not cut it. The Avalanche simply don’t have the pieces that Vancouver would want and the Avs would be willing to give away

Rangers don't have the cap space long term for Kadri, Whom is probably going to command somewhere in the neighborhood of $7,500,000 for 4-5 years. And Horvat in the same range for 7-8 years good luck along with giving Nate MacKinnon $11,000,000 x 8 years on top of it. FYI take far more then a late 1st to get Horvat out of Vancouver. Detroit wants him as much and would offer a far better deal then Colorado.

Burakovsky's rights (not worth much admittedly)

You sure something can't be worked out with those assets if all are on the table? Do Vancouver say no to 2 1st's for example?

Also if Manson gets re-signed and Byram has a healthy playoffs I wouldn't be opposed to trading Girard, either to Vancouver directly, or to another team and flipping that return to Vancouver.

$7.5m for a 2C would be workable if for example Girard gets moved, or if Avs go cheaper with a goalie (as they've done the last 4 years).

In terms of return yes I agree that AVS might struggle to match other bids as their asset pool isn't very deep. Horvats value will be influenced by his willingness to re-sign though so the hope would be that he wants to play on a contender, which Colorado would be.

I remember making proposals with Miller going to Colorado for Barron and a pick and Avs fans saying they wouldn't give up Barron. Well you just did for a worse player than Miller.

Well if it’s this offer then the value is definitely really good. I doubt the Avs would give this much up for Horvat. I’ve heard people tell me they wouldn’t even give that up for JT Miller so idk

Bo Horvat is totally meh. Newhook can already skate circles around him. This is like Hughes vs Makar before Makar flourished given more responsibility. Newhook is gonna get that same chance and needs a complimentary winger. JT Miller would be a great linemate for Alex Newhook.

Definitely would not call Horvat meh. He’s gonna score 30 goals and is a 55-60 point player, and a good leader. That’s a good 2C. Could Newhook produce better than that if given more minutes? It’s definitely possible, and I think the Avs should give him that chance next season. I agree Miller makes more sense for Colorado and more sense for Vancouver to trade. What would your offer for him look like?

I didn't mean that that list was an offer. I meant that those are big pieces that could be included. I doubt AVS would trade all of them in one trade.

What are things that make Horvat a good leader? I keep hearing that, but at the same time there have been reports of a divided lockerroom in Vancouver. One would think that a captain of a team who's a good leader doesn't let a room get divided... So what's the story here?

The divided locker room reports were greatly exaggerated. The only players that were really problems in the room are all gone now (Schmidt, Gaudette, Hamonic)

And ever since he first broke into the league, Horvat has always been lauded as a good leader and locker room guy. I think a lot of the rumours come from the fact that Miller is maybe more vocal of a leader than Horvat, which may have made it seem like Miller was trying to take the role from Horvat

Honestly the Avs blew their load this deadline. Their two best remaining prospects might be worth more internally than on the market. Sakic has done a great job retaining flexibility moving forward so that only best fit trades make sense. I could see him offering Olausson + 1st + minor piece, but only if JTM requested a trade. VAN could get more somewhere else.

I doubt if Avs have the cap for Horvat next season and not in his extension either.

Seems like a waste of pick trading for Kadri "rights". Players/team can talk to any team for a week before being signed.

Wouldn't just resigning Kadri make more sense, he would sign for 7.5m?

Kadri's contract is going to age like sour milk very rapidly.

Logically if you're going to trade for Horvat you don't 'need' Newhook (both 2C) and he's also logically one of the pieces the 'nucks would demand. A 1-2 of MacK & Horvat would be ideal for a team whose window is now. A 1-2 of Pettersson & Newhook would be ideal for a team who is building. With this roster that 2RW spot then becomes available for Olausson IF he appears ready to make a step up. I'd agree some kind of deal involving Sammy G looks tempting under those circumstances above (Manson re-signed). Whether as part of a three-way or another kind of deal. (Girard for Terry and give Olausson more development time?)

There were plenty of us who said no to that but remember there were a lot of other pieces usually expected alongside Barron. Personally I'm not happy about them trading both Barron & Helleson (especially Barron) but have to hope Joe is showing genius again rather than having gone full ****.

    Barron + 2nd

    vs.

    Barron + 1st + Jost

Is not as big of difference in value as there is between Miller (retained) for Lehkonen. Based on that, Miller should have gotten Newhook/Byram + pick. In the offseason if Byram could somehow prove he can be sustainably healthy then a 1 for 1 might be revisited.

Highly doubtful. There's a huge difference between Barron and Byram. Girard is more likely to be traded imo.

    You said no..lol
Do you still think you are a hockey genius ?
All my trade proposal was never near the trade/steal...
    Lek vs Barron.
Sorry but your GM is no better than his fan...
No cup again this year, poor management.
