You are getting a 25 y/o 1st line wing and a 21 y/o top 100 prospect who also happens to be a RHD…

And giving up the only RD prospect we have.
And giving up our best forward prospect.
And giving up our best centre prospect.

Fiala is a good player but we already have three top-line wingers in Bertuzzi, Vrána, and Raymond. All of which score the same as Fiala and are a lot cheaper.

The players that Detroit could offer are players like Rasmussen, McIsaac, Erne, Hirose, Oesterle, and maybe Viro and a pick or two., not players that we need on our roster. That would be like robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Addison is a better RHD prospect than Tuomisto though. And closer to being NHL ready and a better fit with the current age of your teams timeline.

He's a upgrade over Tuomisto.

He's also waiver eligible a lot earlier than Tuomisto is which makes him much less interesting.

Our roster players on RD are 24, 23, and 20 years old. We need a good prospect that is exempt from waivers so that he can go back and forth and cover for injuries.

But you are taking our 2 best forward prospects. I'd rather give up that 2nd and keep Veleno. If Detroit finishes out side the top 10 how about that 1st and Tuomisto

I honestly don't know if Yzerman would do this Detroit has Bertuzzi, Raymond and Vrána they are all 1st line wingers.

Which list are you using? There are several that rank NHL affiliated prospects.

I hate giving up the young forwards but its a good contract on fiala. It would be hard to say no too.

We can just offer-sheet Fiala and pay a 1st and a 3rd, Minnesota can't match.

Yeah but Detroit's need for another winger isn't that great. It's the same reason I'm not sure Yzerman makes this trade.

A lot of people don't like Wheeler but I do. When he did a part 2 to his predictions and went through readdressed his mistakes I was impressed and it adds to the validity of his predictions.

You're right but if we get our 2C (say Copp) and two LD (one offensive - like Schmidt and one defensive - like Pettersson) then Fiala would make us a complete team that's ready to start making the playoffs.

We'd have a roster like:

Bert - Larkin - Raymond
Vrána - Copp - Fiala
Fabbri - Suter - Berggren/Zadina
Rasmussen/Smith - Veleno - Sundqvist

Schmidt - Seider
Pettersson - Hronek
Walman/Juolevi - Lindström

With Edvinsson and Sebrango and Johansson and Söderblom and Niederbach if we need to call someone up.

That's a team that can win a series or two in the playoffs.

I would really like this team. I think this year as proposed isn't that bad, I don't mind the addition of Addison as it would allow him to be traded for our Hronek to be traded for a legit 1/2C.

Again it comes down to what is Fiala's ask? What kind of contract does his camp want, is he willing to sign long term before testing UFA next year? If he wants market value it isnt worth giving up cost controlled players when winger isnt a pressing need in Detroit. Also if wont commit long term then we are shooting the moon next year without having the center position nor the left side of the defense rebuilt. So it comes down to something neither team controls what does Fiala want.

For value assessments, assume the contract I have here for Fiala is what he will come with, or sign when traded.

I didn't realize Fiala was that effective over the last few years but Detroit will still pass. Detroit isn't moving their top C and W prospects. Also we don't need an NHL ready RD, Detroit currently has 3 already.

I'm not sure Sundqvist will be in Detroit that long. STL was trying to move him for cap space. Yzerman mentioned he has been following Walman since college.

If you're going to offer sheet someone it should be the final piece of the puzzle. Like a #2C

There hasn’t been an NHL GM in history to complain about too many NHL-caliber RHDs.

With all do respect, those 3 are great players and if fiala were to go to Detroit it would be smart for them to include 1 of them in the deal instead, but that being said, there is not a single player on Detroit, moritz Seider included that can change a game like fiala. That’s really not up for debate. Does Larkin have the speed? Sure, but not the shot, or playmaking ability.
