Leafs if 1st round exit

Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 27, 2022
Published: Mar. 27, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Who says no?

The team looks quite good.

I would love for the Leafs to resign Mikheyev but I don't think he will resign. I would offer him 5 years x 3m. The man is a machine.

New York gets the best player and the Leafs get more hard working depth.

Ana and NJ trades can happen with any team.

so the leafs get a bad goalie and two guys who cant even score as much as Nylander together ? is the goal to not even make the playoffs next year?

They get a very good grinder in Goodrow. Kakko is young and good defensively (at least so I have heard). Georgiev hasn't been good, hence the 1 year sign and not multi year. They get rid of Mrazek contract also.

Scoring isn't an issue for the Leafs. Getting some hard worker grinders isn't a bad idea. This team still looks very good. They also open up cap for their dcorp.

you dont add hard working grinders at the expense of 1st line forwards. The leafs main issue is that they need a 2LW, after this trade they now need both a 2LW and a 2RW. The third line is already great, they do not need more bottom 6 players.
And dropping 4.5 mill on 36 year old Gologoski is a terrible way to spend that savings, this is a worse team with worse depth

Not enough for Nylander. Maybe Trouba + Lafreniere + 1st, they will consider.

Trades aside, some of these contracts are real light. Pretty wishful thinking.

Gio is wishful thinking for sure. What others do you think are light and what do you think they should be?

I tend to be close but always on the low side for UFAS.

I assume Trouba would not waive for Toronto. So I didn't add him in. Laf over Kakko in the current proposed trade?

All 8 teams in the East are extremely good. All those matchups will be dog fights. Leafs can definitely make the 2nd round. Doesn't mean they will because they will be facing another very good team.

If is the right word. Same goes for the other 7 teams. This year is different than all the others. usually there is quite a lot of parity and 10-12 teams fighting for the playoffs with playoff teams 5-8 being weaker. this year is not like that. It's 8 super good teams.

it will be fun to watch!

How have Goodrow and Kakko looked?

Kakko looking solid defensively? Does he compete hard always?

Just curious since I don't watch New York play.

I think Kakko is better than Laf but they're pretty much the same players tbh. I'd try to get both and maybe a 1st if you're dealing Nylander. Use the cap space to sign someone like Giroux and trade remaining assets for Trouba?

Trouba has his No Trade to Canada clause and he will use it.

Ya 15 teams NTC. Unless he really doesn't want to be in Canada (which is possible considering the world at the moment), I don't see him turning down a trade to the Leafs.
